Vertical Articulation for in the History Standard
Overview:
History Benchmark A, viewed along with relevant grade-level-indicators, illustrates the
manner in which skills and knowledge scaffold to guide students to the skills and
knowledge required by the benchmark.
Procedures:
1. Review the benchmarks and grade-level-indicators for History A at grade bands
3-5 and 6-8.
2. Consider/Discuss the following:

What are the skills and content (knowledge) for both the grade-levelindicators and the benchmark in both grade bands?

How do the skills and content identified in each of the grade-levelindicators help the student reach the benchmark?

If we remove one of the indicators, how would student progress toward
the benchmark be affected?

Are there any relationships between the grade-level-indicators in grade
band 3-5 and those in 6-8?

Why is it important for teachers at each grade level within a grade band to
communicate with one another?
