Illinois State University College of Fine Arts Program in Arts Technology Admission Portfolio Requirement All students seeking to major in Arts Technology must submit a portfolio for review directly to the Program in Arts Technology. For admission to the Arts Technology major, the portfolio will be considered in relation to all other admission materials, including class standing, ACT/SAT scores, and prior college-level records. Please fill out the portfolio review application completely, and return it with your portfolio. The portfolio must include the following materials: 1. Cover Letter stating your interest and what track (Art, Music or Theatre) you will emphasize 2. Writing Sample: This may be poems, short story, script, or an essay. If you wish, you may write on what you think the role of an arts technologist in the 21st century will be (this is only a suggestion for those who don’t have writing samples at the ready) For transfer students: If this is a class-related essay, it must be from a college-level course. 3. Please submit 3-5 pieces. Your cover letter should provide the context for presenting this work. A resume (if submitting for Theatre Track) and/or examples of work relevant to what you would be studying as an Arts Technology major. The portfolio will include some of the following, depending on your interest and experience: • • • • • • • • • • Drawings Web site design Musical Composition Musical Performance Theatre Resume Sketches of theatre design work Digital Audio Samples Samples of painting Photography Multimedia work. Students interested in the music concentration may also be asked to audition or interview to assess their readiness for courses in music theory. - We do not review portfolios of Internal or Transfer students that do not have a GPA of 2.5. - We do not review incomplete submissions. - You must be admitted to Illinois State University before we can review your portfolio. If you are submitting your work in digital format (not required), please make it readable on both Mac and PC, and present it on a CD, or a DVD. *Please note: 3D work: Only photographic or electronic representations of 3-dimensional work will be accepted. Do not send the original 3-D art works. Sketchbooks: You may submit a sketchbook; however, it will only count as one piece. Transfer students: work submitted should reflect college-level art classes already taken. Portfolio Delivery & Return Shipping For return shipping, include a self-addressed mailing container and sufficient postage. Portfolios must be mailed or delivered to the office of the ISU Program in Arts Technology, CVA 206A. Portfolios not ready for return shipping will be held for pickup, and will be discarded according to the following process: When the review committee has made a decision, you will receive a letter from the department informing you of your admission status. You will have 2 weeks from the date of that letter in which to pick up your portfolio if you did not include postage. Please note: any portfolios not picked up within the 2-week time period will be discarded.
