SUMMARY OF POSITION:
To facilitate the delivery of the Stronger Futures Program in alignment with the Child Health Program within Danila Dilba
Health Services, by providing high quality, comprehensive and culturally appropriate clinical care to identified patients with the
aim of achieving increased access for child and maternal health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
OVERVIEW OF DANILA DILBA HEALTH SERVICE (DDHS) AND THE WORK ENVIRONMENT
Background
Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service
(DDHS) is a community-controlled organisation
providing comprehensive primary health care services
to Biluru communities in the Yilli Rreung Region of the
Northern Territory.
The mission of DDHS is to improve the physical,
mental, spiritual, cultural and social wellbeing of its
clients through innovative comprehensive primary
health care programs that are based on the principles
of equity, access, empowerment, community selfdetermination and inter-sectoral collaboration.
DDHS is funded primarily by OATSIH (Department of
Health and Ageing) to deliver health care services to
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and
employs approximately 117 staff (FTE).
Clinical services are delivered from three (3) facilities in Darwin:
 Knuckey Street, Darwin – Primary health care
 Palmerston - Primary health care and Women’s and Children’s Health programs and Dental
 McLaughlin Street, Darwin - Men’s Clinic
Aboriginal Health Practitioners, General Practitioners, Registered Nurses and ancillary staff deliver holistic primary care health
services within the following clinical streams:
 Acute Care and Chronic Disease management
 Child and Maternal health
 Male health
 Specialist/allied health services (including visiting
physicians, pharmacy, and child development)
 Women’s health
Annually DDHS assists over 7,000 individual clients, providing over 42,000 episodes of health care.

A community services team consisting of Aboriginal health workers, family support workers and health practitioners provide a
range of complementary services including:


Community health engagement/ health promotion
Alcohol, tobacco and other drugs program


Youth services
Emotional and social wellbeing services.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Imperatives
Awareness and understanding of DDHS strategic plan
Contribute in developing and implementing strategies to meeting goals set in the provision of comprehensive primary health
care to the Indigenous people of the Greater Darwin Area.
Clinical Care
Deliver services as required under the Stronger Futures Program at Danila Dilba Health Service to achieve optimal health
outcomes; in conjunction with and support to the Child Health Program.
Assessment of infant and children’s growth, development and wellbeing, including clinical assessment, child health screening,
immunisations and case management, and coordination of appropriate care, support and follow up with internal and external
service.
Knowledge of evidence based child and family health to deliver client centred care within clinical practice, program evaluation
and educational support and mentorship for colleagues or ability to gain knowledge;
Support Danila Dilba Oral Health Service by participating in oral health education activities.
Collaboration with members of the DDHS multidisciplinary team and external services providers within government and nongovernment organisations, including SFNT Oral Health Program to facilitate care and follow up for infants, children and
families to support optimal health outcomes
Use of electronic data systems to accurately record client information, for dissemination of child health reports and population
data review and cleansing;
Provide education and in-services as required on topics relating to Stronger Futures Program goals;Human Resources
Management
Participate in cross-cultural education as well as assist and participate in staff induction and orientation.
Participate in work partnership agreements.
Be responsible for your professional development by attending relevant workshops and in-services and self-auditing to
maintain professional development (CPD) as required.
Communication and Teamwork
Maintain a positive work environment along with harmonious and cooperative relationships with fellow employees,
management and clients.
Ensure all interactions with clients and staff show appropriate responses to their needs and demonstrate the application of
DDHS’ code of conduct.
Contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of the workplace in order to meet organisational objectives. This includes
demonstrating appropriate and professional workplace behaviours, providing assistance to team members as required and
undertaking other key responsibilities or activities as directed by your supervisor which are relevant to the position and the
level of classification for the position.
Be responsible to maintaining your own professional work ethics and participate in staff meetings.

Proactively address WH&S hazards, incidents and injuries.
Regularly monitor and review practices and the work environment to ensure a healthy and safe workplace in accordance with
DDHS policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
Comply with infection control standards as per DDHS policies and procedures to ensure client and employee safety.
Quality
Identify and undertake CQI processes to enable the development and improvement of the Stronger Futures Program.
Identify and make recommendations on opportunities to improve processes, quality and service delivery outcomes.
Participate in DDHS continuous quality improvement cycles and contribute to DDHS program reviews as required.
Comply with the DDHS incident and complaint investigation policies.
Information Management
Maintain client file notes and medical histories in our PIRS system.
Ensure accurate documentation of information in a timely manner.
Maintain client confidentiality at all times.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
1. Current registration as an ATSIHP with AHPRA with a minimum 2 years relevant clinical experience;
2. Demonstrated knowledge, experience and clinical competency within a child health program or clinical environment.
3. Having Knowledge of the childhood NT Immunisation schedule and competencies around counselling about and giving
childhood immunizations or ability to gain knowledge.
4. Developed communication and interpersonal skills, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution with people from a
wide range of cultural and social backgrounds;
5. Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Primary Health Care in particular pertaining to child and family health;
6. Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history and knowledge of issues impacting on
Aboriginal children and families;
7. Ability as a member of a team, with strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to plan, manage and
prioritise tasks and resources to deliver outcomes within time and budget considerations;
8. Demonstrated computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Word and Excel (or similar) as well as the
ability to use clinical practice software;
9. An understanding of confidentiality;
Desirable:
1. Possess a current NT Department of Health (OH) Vaccine Provider’s Certificate or the preparedness to gain one;
2. Knowledge of current NT legislative requirements about mandatory reporting.
3. Demonstrated commitment to own professional development;
