POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Registered Midwife (P113-120 / P113-093) Supervisor: General Manager, Palmerston NURSE 4.1 – 4.3 Base Salary: $91,131 - $97,906 Total Salary: $101,629 - $109,184 (Note: Total salary includes leave loading and superannuation) Direct Supervision: 1 Indirect Supervision: 0 Classification and Salary: Staff Location Palmerston Family Centre Date Reviewed December 2014 SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Registered Midwife will contribute to the quality and delivery of primary health care within the Danila Dilba Health Service Mothers and Babies Clinic, by providing high quality, comprehensive and culturally appropriate midwifery care to patient with the aim of improving maternal and birth outcomes. OVERVIEW OF DANILA DILBA HEALTH SERVICE (DDHS) AND THE WORK ENVIRONMENT Background Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is a community-controlled organisation providing comprehensive primary health care services to Biluru communities in the Yilli Rreung Region of the Northern Territory. The mission of DDHS is to improve the physical, mental, spiritual, cultural and social wellbeing of its clients through innovative comprehensive primary health care programs that are based on the principles of equity, access, empowerment, community selfdetermination and inter-sectoral collaboration. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Imperatives Awareness and understanding of DDHS strategic plan Contribute in developing and implementing strategies to meeting goals set in the provision of comprehensive primary health care to the Indigenous people of the Greater Darwin Area Program Management Monitor progress of patients including identifying problems, so staff resources and care can be altered appropriately. Actively participate in the delivery of direct clinical care to mothers and babies. Provide comprehensive culturally appropriate antenatal and postnatal clinical midwifery services to patients. Provide maternity education, particularly antenatal education. Provide a range of screening, treatment and education in relation to all aspects of women’s health; Work closely with general practitioners, Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHP’s) and Family Support Workers’ (FSW) providing assistance in consultations as needed. In consultation with AHP and FSW, communicate directly with patients and relatives providing relevant information regarding the patient’s treatment and future care. Appropriate allocation, monitoring and timely follow up of antenatal and postnatal recalls. Participate in work partnership agreements. Be responsible for your professional development by attending relevant workshops and in-services and self-auditing to maintain professional development (CPD) as required. Ensure all interactions with clients and staff show appropriate responses to their needs and demonstrate the application of DDHS’ code of conduct. This includes demonstrating appropriate and professional workplace behaviours, providing assistance to team members as required and undertaking other key responsibilities or activities as directed by your supervisor. Be responsible to maintaining your own professional work ethics and participate in staff meetings. Safe Practice and Environment Proactively address WH&S hazards, incidents and injuries and adhere to infection control processes. Regularly monitor and review practices and the work environment to ensure a healthy and safe workplace in accordance with DDHS policies and procedures and legislative requirements. Comply with infection control standards as per DDHS policies and procedures to ensure client and employee safety. Quality Identify areas for improvement and make recommendations to improve processes, quality and service delivery outcomes. Participate in DDHS continuous quality improvement cycles and contribute to DDHS program reviews as required. Comply with the DDHS incident and complaint investigation policies. Information Management Maintain accurate recording of client records in a timely manner Undertake client record reviews and data cleansing. Maintain client confidentiality at all times. Registered Midwife with a current practising certificate; A minimum of four years clinical experience together with high level skills in patient education. Experience working in maternal and child health; Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a cross cultural and complex environment Strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently to plan, manage and prioritise tasks and resources to deliver outcomes within time and budget considerations; 6. Proven high level oral and written communication skills including liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution with people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds; 7. Experience with clinical practice software and high level competency in the maintaining of patient records and monitoring of patient recall systems 8.
