High School Mandarin Chinese Syllabus: NIVA 2015-2016 Textbook: GEN WO XUE HAN YU 1 Internet Materials Course description: The course consists of example of literary texts which are analyzed and discussed, spelling and sentence construction, paragraphing, vocabulary, reading, grammar notes, dialogue, short article and exercise for students. Emphasis is placed on simple accuracy, as foundation for more complex and detailed structure. Course organization: The course will accord with high school students’ psychological conditions. It will focus on the training of Chinese communicative competence and also on motivating the high school student. In addition, the course is devoted to forming a solid foundation for the students’ further study. Quarter 1: In the first quarter, students will learn Phonetic letters first and then they has to learn how to greet others, how to introduce themselves to others in Chinese (including listening skill, speaking skill, reading skill and writing skill). Quarter 2: The second quarter will examine the success of what the student learn from the first quarter first. And then, the students will learn the daily expression in Chinese. This course involves listening skill, speaking skill, reading skill and writing skill. Quarter 3: The third quarter will reinforce vocabulary with review of what the student learn from quarter1 and quarter 2 first. Then, the student will learn to talk about family members in Chinese (including listening skill, speaking skill, reading skill and writing skill). Quarter 4: The fourth quarter will examine the success of what the student learn from quarter1, quarter2 and quarter3 first. And then, the student will start to learn how to how to talk about their friends in Chinese. The course contains listening skill, speaking skill, reading skill and writing skill. Develop the abilities to use the Mandarin effectively and appropriately for purpose of practical communication. 4.
