Children & Antibiotics

When entering the Antibiotic Safety Zone, I understand:
 That antibiotics can do more harm than good: It is best to avoid
antibiotics unless they are clearly needed.
 That nasal mucus becomes thick and green during most virus colds:
Antibiotics should not be given for bad colds.
 That ear infections are difficult to diagnose with certainty, and usually
clear up on their own: Antibiotics should be given only if the doctor is
quite certain that the ear is infected.
 That most sore throats and tonsillitis are caused by viruses:
Antibiotics should be given only after Strep is found on a throat swab
test.
 That acute bronchitis is caused by viruses: Antibiotics should not be
used to treat children’s bronchitis.
 That pneumonia is a serious diagnosis and is fairly uncommon in
Canada: Whenever possible, pneumonia should be proven with a
Chest X-ray before antibiotics are started.
