Wastes Requiring Special Containers
Sharps/ Glass:
Contaminated Sharps (e.g., Needles, Syringes, Razor Blades, Scalpels, and Scalpel Blades), in addition
to other packaging and labeling requirements, must be placed in puncture-proof, screw-top containers (no
cardboard boxes, plastic or biohazard bags). Biologically infectious sharps must be rendered noninfectious
(see section VII) prior to submittal of the Hazardous Material/Waste Tag. These materials are then
handled through the Hazardous Material/Waste program.
Non-Contaminated Sharps (e.g., Needles, Syringes, Razor Blades, Scalpels, and Scalpel Blades), must also
be packaged as described for contaminated sharps and handled through the Hazardous Material/Waste
program.
