Descendants of Alexander Bruce

First Generation
1. Alexander Bruce-[2419], son of Bruce-[6268] and Unknown, was born about 1770 in Scotland and
died before 25 Oct 1848 in Portmoak, Kinross, Perthshire, Scotland.
General Notes: Kinross was also known as a part of the kingdom of Fife.
Noted events in his life were:
• He was Presbyterian.
Alexander married Janet Creig-[5042] [MRIN:1593] on 6 Dec 1800 in Portmoak, Scotland. Janet died
after 12 Feb 1848 in Portmoak, Kinross, Perthshire, Scotland.
The child from this marriage was:

2 M
i. James Bruce-[5046] was born about 1806 in Portmoak, Kinross, Perthshire, Scotland, 1
died on 16 Nov 1852 in Turon Goldfield, New South Wales, Australia 2 about age 46,
and was buried in Sofala, New South Wales, Australia.
Second Generation (Children)
2. James Bruce-[5046] (Alexander 1) was born about 1806 in Portmoak, Kinross, Perthshire, Scotland, 1
died on 16 Nov 1852 in Turon Goldfield, New South Wales, Australia 2 about age 46, and was buried in
Sofala, New South Wales, Australia. The cause of his death was mining accident - fall of earth.
General Notes: Left Plymouth 25 Oct 1848 for Sydney on board Walter Morrice , arriving 12 Feb
1849. Details from passenger list show that he was a Presbyterian, and that he was an agricultural
labourer. He was literate as were the five eldest children. No mention is made in the passenger list
of his wife; according to Australian Immigration Board remarks, she died whilst on the voyage out
from Scotland. Place of departure shown as Portmoak, Kinross, Scotland.
According to his son's obituary (Michael), James died as a result of an earth fall at the Turon
goldfield - date unknown. There is a death registration for a John Bruce who died at Bathurst
Point, Sofala (Turon) on 16 Nov 1852 (1852V38/1500); the difference in the name could be
explained by several causes: his name may have been confused with his initial, and the name John
assumed; his son John may have been the informant, and his name substituted (not an uncommon
mistake) - or it may not be him at all.3
Medical Notes: According to the obituary of his son Michael Bruce, James was killed by 'a fall of
earth' at the Turon River goldfield near Bathurst, NSW. Michael was apparently a witness to the
event. Name of deceased shown as 'John' on the certificate.
Noted events in his life were:
• He was Presbyterian.
• He immigrated per Walter Morrice in 1849 to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. 1 Migrated
with his children - wife died on the journey.
• He worked as a miner in 1852 in New South Wales, Australia.4 On death certificate of son, John

was dysentry while onboard ship. Another name for Ellen was Helen.

Australia at the age of nine years on the ship "Walter Morris" [sic], accompanied by his parents
[sic], sisters and brothers. [In fact only his father landed, as his mother had died en route to
Sydney.] When he became old enough he worked in Sydney for some time. The call of gold which
was then being won in large quantities in the colony "got" him and his father as well. Bruce junior
had the awful experience of seeing his father killed by a fall of earth at the Turon [River near
Bathurst. The rush started on 14 June 1851, and was the largest goldfield in NSW] . When quite a
young man he came to Adelong and on the Great Victorian reef here he had a brother killed whilst
mining. He met and married his wife in Adelong and they settled down in Williamstown, Adelong,
and lived there for 59 years where the old home still stands. Here they reared a large family.
George, their eldest son [actually he was their youngest son], was killed in the Great War in
France. Other members of the family who survive are - Michael (Gundagai), James (Glen Innes),

G.T. Baker (Adelong), Mrs F. Treweek (Victoria), and there are 29 grandchildren and 20 great

40 ORs were killed. The 'cheerful' young veteran Major in charge said that they got
off lightly.
Fourth Generation (Great-Grandchildren)
15. James Bruce-[148] (John 3, James 2, Alexander 1) was born on 27 Aug 1854 in Sydney, New South
Wales, Australia,34 was christened on 24 Sep 1854 in St Andrew's Scots (Presbyterian) Church, Sydney,
New South Wales, Australia,34 and died in 1914 in Scone, New South Wales, Australia 35 at age 60.
General Notes: Death certificate cites Alexander as his father -- if this certificate is correct, then
the Alexander was his great-grandfather. Possible John (his father) was known as Alexander?
James married Isabel E. NORMAN-[9191] [MRIN:1379], daughter of Samuel M. NORMAN-[9301]
and Mary E.-[9302], in 1879 in Albury, New South Wales, Australia.36 Isabel died in 1909 in St Peters,
New South Wales, Australia 87.
Marriage Notes: No marriage listed in registrations. Possible they were (a) never marrried, or (b)
never registered the union (may be in church records somewhere).
The child from this marriage was:
36 F
i. Bessie E. Bruce-[4273] was born in 1878 in Albury, New South Wales, Australia. 88

General Notes: The original Scots' Church was founded by John Dunmore Lang in 1824. The
church opened in 1826. The present building was built in the 1920s and is now closed (2002),
awaiting redevelopment as residential apartments.
George was buried in the Presbyterian section of Wagga Wagga Memorial Cemetery. No
headstone marker on grave, and site of grave not now known due to poor record keeping in those
days by the churches concerned. Obituary written in Wagga Daily Advertiser 11 Apr 1932. He
was a carpenter by trade, and was a local 'identity'. Towards the end of his obit. in The Daily
Advertiser, 11 April 1932, it states he had two stepsisters, Blanche and Edith, both of Sydney.
Possibly more of the Galloway strays?
He was in partnership with (brother) William Duncan Bruce and Jas. Williams for two years
trading as Williams and Bruce, but the firm went bankrupt in 1906. The paperwork on file for this
particular case is immense. He returned to C. Hardy & Co., builders (he had originally done his
apprenticeship with them at age 16) and remained with them a total of 54 years.
Following the death of his son Charles during WWI, he requested all medals to be forwarded to his
wife (Jane); however, as Charles had an 'ex-nuptial child', only the British Empire medal was sent
to them, with the Victory medal and Memorial Plaque being sent to Mrs A.A. Lloyd (the natural
mother) for them to be held in trust for his son, Charles Wesley Cheney. Mrs Lloyd was shown as
living at Whiting Street, Gore Hill, and the boy at Hotham Parade, Gore Hill (possibly with his
guardian?).
Noted events in his life were:
• He was Presbyterian in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia.
• He was employed as a foreman carpenter with Hardy & Co in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales,
Australia.90 He had also tried to go into business on his own account at one time with his
brother, but it ended in bankruptcy.
George married Jane Keith-[2383] [MRIN:281], daughter of William Keith-[2464] and Margaret
Manson-[4231], on 18 Oct 1880 in Presbyterian rites, Gundagai, New South Wales, Australia.42 Jane
was born about 18 May 1862 in Thurso, Caithness, Scotland and died on 29 Nov 1940 in Wagga
Wagga, New South Wales, Australia 91 about age 78.
Marriage Notes: "The consent of William Keith Father of the Bride was given to the marriage of
Jane Keith with George Bruce the said Jane Keith being under the age of twenty one years". James
T. Robertson, a Presbyterian Minister.
According to the Marriage Cert (NSW), they were married acording to the Rites of the
Presbyterian church, and were married "at Gundagai" but not necessarily in a church.
Witnesses were William Keith (probably the bride's father as he would have been present in order
to give his official permission for the union) and Jas. (James) Bruce, George's eldest brother. 42
Noted events in her life were:
• She immigrated per the Eastern Empire on 29 Nov 1862 to Sydney, New South Wales,
Australia. Migrated with parents and elder sister Margaret.
Children from this marriage were:

Aged 28 years 1 month. Height 5' 6 1/2"; weight 160 lbs; chest 37"; complexion dark;
eyes blue; hair brown; religion Presbyterian. Little finger off right hand, and scar over left
eye.
Private John Bruce, 806, Aust 1st Tropical.
Embarked at Sydney per HMAS "Berima" 19 Aug 1914 as Private 806, in 'H' Coy, 1st
Tropical. Served at Rabaul - possibly as one of the original 25 who landed from the
"Berima" at Rabaul on 11 Sept. Discharged after 161 days service on 18 Jan 1915, time
expired.
Private John Bruce, 1011, 24th Battalion, 6th Brigade, AIF.
Re-enlisted 19 Feb 1915 into 19th Battalion, Australian Infantry Forces (AIF).
Transferred to 24th Battalion 30 Apr 1915. Embarked at Melbourne per HMAT Euripides
8 May 1915. Medical examination at Heliopolis Palace (the Australian base hospital),
Egypt 7 Jul 1915 for 24 Battalion, 6th Infantry Brigade, AIF. Interesting that his
examination was done after their arrival in Egypt, and not before departure.
Proceeded to join Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (MEF), Gallipoli Peninsula 30 Aug
1915 as part of the reinforcements, but only stayed four months. Evacuated from Gallipoli
- general evacuation started 12 Dec 1915 and finished 18 and 19 Dec; was Jack one of the
last to leave? Disembarked (ex Mudros Harbour at Lemnos Island near Greece) at
Alexandria 10 Jan 1916 so must have been somewhere in between dates - Lemnos?
Proceeded to British Expeditionary Force (BEF) at Alexandria 20 Mar 1916. Arrived
Marseilles 26 Mar 1916. Appointed Lance Corporal to complete establishment 9 Sep
1916. Evacuated sick 13 Oct with torn muscle in right leg; injury occurred 'in the field' in
Belgium; admitted and transferred to 2nd ADRS via 6th Australia Field Ambulance.
Rejoined Battalion 17 Oct 1916 'in the field'. Promoted to Temporary Corporal 26 Oct
1916 in France. Admitted to Rouen hospital with trench feet 8 Nov 1916 - rank reverted
to Lance Corporal on evacuation. Transferred to 2 Comes. Dept 9 Nov. Discharged from
B/Dpt 'A' class 12 Nov 1916. 14 Nov admitted to 2 ADBD from hospital, Estaples.
Rejoined Battalion in France 24 Nov 1916 - re-promoted to Temporary Corporal (as per
Order dated 26 Oct). Rank at death was that of corporal.
He was killed in action 25 Feb 1917, and was buried (hastily?) in an 'isolated grave', north
of Warlencourt Eaucourt and 3 miles west southwest of Rapaume. His body was later to
be re-interred in the nearest war cemetery, but it seems that his original grave with him in
it was blown up by artillary fire, as often happened as the battle moved back and forth
across the 'lines'. Accordingly, his remains were never able to be recovered.
In October 1917 a letter was received by a Mr Bruce of Albury (possibly a relation of
George) which contained a photo of the grave of No. 1011 Corporal J.E.A. Bruce, 24th
Battalion, the cross indicating that he was killed on the 25/2/1917. Emerson & Tietyens,
solicitors for Mr Bruce, forwarded the letter on to George Snr as it was actually addressed
to a Mr Bruce of Albany. However, they wrote to the Base Records in Melbourne as the
details of the photograph were quite clear, and were informed that the next of kin was, in
fact, Mrs Jane Bruce of Wagga. In October 1919 (two years later!) Mrs Jane Bruce
received a letter from Base Records explaining that isolated graves were getting 'the
utmost attention', and promising photographs which were being taken for the next-of-kin.
These were apparently forwarded in triplicate on 15 July 1920. Name on Memorial
Register No. 26 -- Villers Bretonneux, France.
Effects returned per Ayrshire; disk, medal, wallet, note books 3, cards, photos, letter,
metal watch (damaged), book of poems, holdall, chevrons, knife, book, mittens, whistle,
cap, comforter, compass, rag handle, wrist strap, mirror. I have no idea where they are
today.
Regimental Number: 1011. Rank, Temporary Corporal. Victory Medal and Memorial
Plaque sent to mother, Jane Bruce as nominated next-of-kin. British War Medal sent 4

appendix (8 days), peritonitus (6 days).
General Notes: Possibly his parents were buried with him in the Presbyterian section of
the Wagga Wagga cemetery, or he might have been on his own. There is no record of his
burial in the records still extant. The record-keeping of the churches (esp the Presbyterian
church) in those days was very poor. He was buried by McIntosh Bros of Wagga, and the
minister was Rev. Gardner.
Medical Notes: According to his death certificate he was 16 years old; however, he was
nearer 18 in reality.

Research Notes: The Tyne Cot Cemetery is located 9 kms NE of Ieper town centre, on the
Tynecotstraat, a road leading from the Zonnebeekseweg.
'Tyne Cot' or 'Tyne Cottage' was the name given by the Army to a barn that stood 46 mats west of
the level crossing on the Passchendale-Broodseinde road. The barn which had become the centre
of five or six 'pill-boxes', was captured by the 2nd Australian Division on 4 Oct 1917, in the
advance on Passchendale. One of these 'pill-boxes' was unusually large, and it was used after
capture as an Advanced Dressing Station. From 6 Oct to the end of March the following year, 343
graves were made on two sides of it by the 50th (Northumbrian) & 33rd Divisions, and by two
Canadian units as well. From 13 April to 28 Sep it was again in enemy hands, then was recaptured,
together with Passchendale, by the AIF in company with the Belgian Army.
The cemetery was enlarged after Armistice by the concentration of graves from the battlefields of
Passchendale and Langemark, and from a few small burial grounds. It is now the largest
Commonwealth War Cemetery in the world. There are now nearly 12,000, 1914-1918 war
casualties commemorated at the site; of these over 8,000 are unidentified and special memorials
are erected to 38 soldiers from the UK, 27 from Canada, 15 from Australia and 1 from NZ, known
or believed to be buried among them. Other special memorials record the names of 16 soldiers
from UK and 4 from Canada, buried in other cemeteries, whose graves were destroyed by shell

i. Geoffrey Bruce Humble-[1] was born on 19 Mar 1948 in 'Claverly' Private Hospital,
Geelong, Victoria, Australia 215 and was christened on 22 Aug 1948 in 341 Ryrie Street,
Geelong, Victoria, Australia.216 Another name for Geoffrey is Geoff.
General Notes: I am the author of these family history records. I was born in Claverly
Private Hospital, Sydney Parade, Geelong. My parents lived at 494 Ryrie Street at that
time. I was baptised into the Presbyterian church by Rev William Ingram in the front
room of Morcambe, 341 Ryrie St (the home of my paternal grandparents). The 'font' was
a porcelain sugar bowl.
I first attended Yarra Street Wesleyan kindergarten, travelling there by tram. I then
attended Swanston Street State (primary) School for years 1-5, when I was accepted into
Geelong College where I remained until 1963.
As a wee child I was taken to St Andrew's Presbyterian church kindergarten, but didn't
like it there for some reason, so a neighbour suggested the Church of England 'kindy'
instead, Thus began a long relationship with St Matthew's church.
I was confirmed into the Anglican Church in 1962, and was a member of the junior choir
from age 10.
I left Geelong College at the end of 1963 and went to Geelong High School. There, I
repeated Form 5 (now referred to as Year 11) departing the life of secondary academia at
the end of 1965, the year the school burnt down - no connection!! I was employed by
Goodland Sales & Service (International Harvester agents); however, when a severe
drought forced them to retrench staff in 1968, I moved to Esler & Belton, Chrysler and
Rootes agents.
It was about this time we moved to 345 Ryrie Street. Gran had moved from old
'Morcambe' at 341 Ryrie Street to new 'Morcambe' at 345 Ryrie Street in 1953, and
bequeathed it to my father when she died in 1967. I worked in the spare parts department
at Esler's for about two years, then joined Benders Diesel Service in Geelong as an
assistant to the general manager. Later I became a part of the spare parts team where I

stayed for nearly ten years. Esler's went into bankruptcy a couple of years later, which I
took a degree of pleasure from, as they sacked me for not purchasing one of their motor
cars -- I preferred a Leyland vehicle.
I left St Matthews Anglican church after a spiteful backlash by an ultraconservative
Protestant element within the congregation against what was already a low-church
liturgy, and went to Christ Church, Geelong (middle-to-high church liturgy) for a while,
all the time beating off efforts to have me join their choir. Then I returned to St Andrews
(after an absence of some twenty-odd years) to sing in their choir on special occasions -- a
friend from St Matthews, Don Millard, was organist/choir master there. I remained at St
Andrews for several years after it became a Uniting Church, becoming a regular choir
member, and Ros and I were married there in 1981.
After a trip overseas for 18 months to England and Europe circa 1978, I returned to
Benders (a mistake), left after a year and travelled for Expo Adventure, a group-oriented
bus travel company. This was not a good move financially, and I moved to Testro
Brothers selling advertising in western and northern Victoria, southern Queensland, and
eastern South Australia. This was good financially but not good socially, so to avoid the
thousands of Kilometres of travel I joined the staff of Marcus Ward furnishings (owned
by my father-in-law) as a salesman, where I remained until he sold the business and I was
retrenched. I approached Prudential Assurance and was accepted as a Life Assurance
agent; this connection brought me and Ros to Warrnambool in 1983.
In 1986 the company and I parted after about 6 years, and I became a member of the new
firm of Vandermeer and Northeast Real Estate as a sub-agent. In Warrnambool I rejoined
the Anglican church -- because they had a choir and the Uniting Church didn't! I first
entered tertiary education at Warrnambool Institute of Advanced Education (now a
campus of Deakin University) as a part-time student in 1985, becoming a full-time
mature-age student in 1988.
I took my Bachelor of Arts degree in Management Communication in 1991. That year I
was 'employed' as station manager for 3WAY-fm, the local community radio station - this
was an honorary position, and was never likely to pay, so I went back to school and took
my Post-Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) in 1993. In 1995 I commenced a
Master of Arts degree through Charles Sturt University: Bathurst by distance education.
I was appointed as a Eucharistic Assistant at Christ Church Anglican church,
Warrnambool in 1990, and commissioned as a primary school religious education teacher
in 1991.
I have been involved with amateur theatre since 1974 when I took part in the Geelong
Musical Comedy Company's (GMCC) production of the musical "Oliver" and had my
first lines "You're too late, he's gorn!". It was in this particular show that I met the lady
who eventually became my wife. Since "Oliver" I have been in several shows as actor
with GMCC (Black Eagle in 'Rose Marie', Perchik in 'Fiddler on the Roof', Mr
Sowerberry in the 1983 production of 'Oliver', a bit player in 'My Fair Lady'), chorus
master ("Irene" and "Kiss Me Kate" for GMCC and "My Fair Lady" for WTC), musical
director ("Annie Get Your Gun" for GMCC and "Irene" for WTC), stage manager
(GMCC & Lyric shows and concerts in Geelong, and Brauer Secondary College in
Warrnambool as well as concerts for the Warrnambool City Council), and (once only!)
set designer with "Orpheus and the Underworld" for GMCC. I have compered the Senior
Vocal heats and Fletcher Jones Memorial Aria for the Warrnambool Eisteddfod 1991-4,
and 1996 (committee member 1994-5), and in 1993 narrated "Tubby The Tuba" for the
Melbourne Youth Orchestra at the Warrnambool PAC.
We relocated back to Geelong in November 1998 when we officially took over our brand
new home at 30 Clydesdale Way, Highton.
In 1999, I was commissioned as a eucharistic assistant and lector, elected to St Paul's
Anglican Church, Geelong, vestry. In 2000 was elected a (people's) church warden,
returning to the vestry in 2002. Was appointed as Synod representitive for St Paul's in
2003 - a 3-year appointment.
I have continued to be employed by Deakin University.
To keep myself occupied I write socio/historical stories about some of my ancestors, John
Whiting, William Humble JP and his wife Emma Strong, Alf Collins and George Bruce,
as well as digging in the garden - for the exercise!217

Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Another name for Felicity is Flick, Flicka, 'Pudden'.
General Notes: Achieved Bachelor of Nursing, 1992, Masters degree 2000.
I remember being with Dad when we collected Mum and Flick from the hospital after her
birth. We were in Granny's old 1940s Austin Princess car -- I remember that it was a
small limousine, had huge headlights, and was driven by someone other than Dad. And
we collected them from Kardinia House as I recall. It had just been built and was
considered to be 'state of the art' in hospitals.

and Samuel LYE. 201
General Notes: He was an 'ex-nuptial' child resulting from a (brief) relationship when his natural
parents were both 18. Apparently there was a court case at Wagga relating to his birth about
October 1909; his birth was never officially registered, although it was recorded. He may have
subsequently been adopted by his stepfather Samuel Robert Lloyd, but this seems unlikely as
Arthur Charles Leitch Baylis had to provide permission for him to marry in 1929 as his legal
guardian. Charles was still under age (less than 21) at that time, and his natural mother had died
four years prior.
Alice Lloyd (nee Cheney), his mother, was granted a pension of £1 per fortnight from 2 December
1917, following his natural father's (Charles Bruce) death in action during WWI, until 9 July 1925
at which time he would have turned 16 and the pension automatically ceased as by this age he
would be expected to be employed and self-sufficient.
The Victory Medal and Memorial Plaque was sent to Mrs A.A. Lloyd (his mother) for them 'to be
held in trust for his son, Charles Wesley Cheney'. Mrs Lloyd was shown as living in Whiting
Street, Gore Hill, but the boy was at Hotham Parade, Gore Hill. Possibly this was the home of his
guardian. At the time of the pension application, Alice Lloyd's address is shown as Hotham
Parade, so perhaps the family had moved from one to the other at about the same time. Another
theory is that Hotham Parade was the address of Alice Jane Cheney, Alice Lloyd's mother, as that
is the address on her evidence record as well.
On the marriage certificate to Lorraine Harvey, Charles is also shown as Samuel Lye. He appears
to have adopted this name for some reason. Otherwise he appears to have retained his mother's
surname and his own Christian name. His stepfather Samuel Lloyd also took the name Lye for
some reason, and several of his descendents still carry that name.
Research Notes: Death certificate unavailble as his death is less than 30 years ago.
Medical Notes: Was cremated after death at the Woronora Crematorium, Sutherland, in Sydney.
Noted events in his life were:
• He was adopted after 1911 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Possibly by Arthur Charles
Leitch Baylis, who was noted as 'guardian' when Charles was first married, and had to provide
permission for the union. Also possible he was living at Hotham Parade, Gore Hill?
• He resided at Hotham Parade, Gore Hill in 1917 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.83 His
mother was living at Whiting Street, Gore Hill at this time.
• He received a pension War Pension on 2 Dec 1917-9 Jul 1925 in Sydney, New South Wales,
Australia.221 Payment of 20/- per fortnight was granted to his mother, Alice Lloyd.
• He resided at Gore Hill in 1929 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. 201
• He resided at 31 Charles Street, Harbord in 1936 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. 202
Place of residence as shown on marriage certificate
• He worked as a brick setter in 1929-1936 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.201, 202 The
occupation appears on both marriage certificates.
• He was buried at the Woronora General Cemetary & Crematorium in Sydney, New South
Wales, Australia in Sep 1984.222 He was cremated and his ashes placed in an area called Wall
of Memories, panel 20, niche 171.
Charles married Lorraine Violet Harvey-[4244] [MRIN:1209], daughter of William John Harvey[5875] and Sarah Camillia Thompson-[5876], on 25 Nov 1929 in Crows Nest, North Sydney, New
South Wales, Australia.201 The marriage ended in divorce before 1936. Lorraine was born about 1912
in North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.201
Marriage Notes: They were married at the Presbyterian Church at Crows Nest, North Sydney by
the Rev'd Alex Clark. As both were under legal age, they had to have parental/guardianship
consent to marry. In the groom's case, the consent of Arthur Charles Leitch Baylis, as guardian of
the bridegroom, was given in writing. Permission by the bride's father, William John Harvey was
also provided. Witnesses were S. Harvey (bride's mother) and W.J. Harvey (bride's father). The
groom signed his name as 'S. Lye'. Given the use of pseudonym and the age of the couple, perhaps
this was a 'shotgun' wedding, and he changed his name to avoid any future consequences? It also
appears that after the birth of their child, Lorraine returned to her parents' home, and not to the

home of the groom. They were divorced at some stage after this, and before Charles remarried in

i. Son Cheney-[5947] was born about 1929 in Crows Nest, North Sydney, New South
Wales, Australia and died about 1929 in Crows Nest, North Sydney, New South Wales,
Australia.
General Notes: There does not appear to be any registration for either birth or death possible that the child was still-born and as such was never registered. I have assumed
this until proven otherwise. The birth comes from family 'legend'.
Charles Charles never married. Mabelle Maude Widerstrom Bedford-[4106] [MRIN:1176],
daughter of Alfred William Bedford-[5872] and Mabelle Effie Christopher-[5873], on 11 Dec 1936
in Office of the District Registrar, Manly Court House, New South Wales, Australia. 202 Mabelle was
born about 1901 in Murrurundi, New South Wales, Australia and died on 18 Oct 1985 in Sydney, New
South Wales, Australia 223 about age 84. Another name for Mabelle was Covel. 202
Marriage Notes: Witnesses to this marriage were Samuel R. Lye (groom's step-father) and Violet
R Watt (possibly a sister of Edna May Watt who had married Charles' step brother Robert George
Lye aka Lloyd). Both parties had been previously divorced. 202
