Cruz will be this year chairman. Lion Lupe will be contacting each of you to serve on committees. Please remember this is our major fund raiser for the year and your participation is very important.

Fluor’s Community Involvement Team (FCIT) and Keep

Sugar Land Beautiful are hosting a re-cycling event of

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Fluor’s Lake Pointe Plaza.

They will be collecting used eye-glasses. Lion Ella will be contacting you to work a shift.

Health Fair – The Millennium Club has asked the Sugar Land

Lions to help with eye screening on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 10 am – 2pm at the Filipino Methodist Church, located at the corner of Kirkwood and Beechnut. Lion Ella will be contacting you to work.

2009 Awards and Installation of Officers Dinner will be held at the Land and Cattle Restaurant. Lion Lupe De La

Cruz has made arraignments for this year’s location. The cost per Lion and guest will be $25.00 each and will include both dinner and gratuity. Happy hour (cash bar) will be between 6pm and 7pm. Dinner and meeting will begin at

7pm. Lion PDG Than Colvin will install all new officers for

2009 – 2010.

District 2-S4 Leadership Training will be hosted by the

Freeport Lions Club at 1224 Gulf Blvd, Freeport, Tx.

Training will begin at 10am and adjourn at 2pm. Lunch will be provided for a small cost

Activities For May 2009

The club spent 11 hours collecting, sorting, and packing 65 pairs of used eyeglasses,

102 pairs of frames, and 64 pairs of lenses for our used eyeglasses project. Thanks to the following Lions for their efforts: Lions Pat Segu, Ella Aubin, Pat Grounds, Beth

Dodson, F. Dzierzanowski, Carlos Monsanto, Bobby Young and Jack Grounds.

We spent 7 hours supporting the Lions Foundation for Sight Project. Thanks to Lions

Jack Grounds for his time in supporting this organization.

We had a good turn-out for the May 1 st Little League game between the Nationals (the team your Sugar Land Lions sponsor) and the Pirates. Thanks to Lions Ray and Mary Ann

Lehrmann for arraigning to have our pictures taken by the Chronicle. Lions attending were Mary Ann Lehrmann, Ray Lehrmann, Bill Louviere, Tom Sciba, Lupe De La Cruz and Larry Stewart. Also, present was Lion Lupe’s son.

Lion Jack Grounds spent 10 hours helping organize the Galveston West Beach Lions

Club. Thanks Lion Jack for you commitment and dedication to Lions everywhere.

Thanks to Ella Aubin for her 15 hours of service toward Boy Scout Troop 148. Lion Ella was instrumental in her support of the years Court of Honor. Also, our thanks to Lions

Mary Ann and Ray Lehrmann who contributed 4 hours toward this cause.

Lions Ray and Mary Ann Lehrmann continue to support the local community with their involvement in various projects. Lions Ray and Mary Ann are supposed to be retired but you wouldn’t know it by their schedule. Thanks Ray and Mary Ann for all you do.

Thanks to Lion Georgia Messemer for volunteering her time as a tutor at the Ft Bend

Literacy Council. Please thank Lion Georgia for her time and dedication to this great cause.

Thanks to Beth Dodson and Deb Hernandez who worked 26 hours supporting the St.

Laurence Leo Club. Great Job to these Lions

The St. Laurence Leos presented our club with a donation of $ 200.00 as well as a great meal at the May21st meeting. The meeting was organized by Lions Beth and Deb.

The 2009 Sugar Land Lions Citizenship award was presented to Christopher Sabbagh of the Sugar Land Middle School. Thanks to Lions Lupe De La Cruz, Ella Aubin, Mary Ann

Lehrmann and Ray Lehrmann.

Sugar Land Golf Shirts

If you are interested in purchasing a purple golf shirt (no pocket) with the Sugar Land

Lions logo on it, please contact Lion Patty Grounds. Cost of each shirt will range from

$12.00 - $15.00, depending on size.

VISITATIONS

Club visitations are great way to maintain your 100% club attendance award and a great opportunity to see just how other club are doing in our district, not to mention meeting other great Lions.

Lions Jack and Pat Grounds made visitations to the Rosenberg Lions Club on May 6,

2009. Thanks Lions Pat and Jack.

IN OUR THOUGHTS

Lion Frank Ruzicka for the loss of his brother. Lions Frank, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during the very sad and difficult time.

Please continue to keep Lion Angela Rankin in your prayers. Lion Angela we pray that you will make a quick and speedy recovery.
