An audit of compliance with the BCSH/BSBMT guidelines on the organspecific management and supportive care in chronic graft-versus-host
disease
Background
The BCSH/BSBMT has published guidance on the organ-specific management
and supportive care of chronic graft-versus-host disease. This audit will review
compliance of current practice with this guideline.
Aim and
objectives
1. To review whether all patients with cGvHD are reviewed by a team
experienced in managing transplant-related complications
2. To review whether referral to a specialist e.g ophthalmologist, dermatologist
has been considered for patients with significant symptoms.
3. To review whether all patients are receiving prophylaxis against viral, fungal,
Pneumocystis jiroveci and Streptococcus pneumonia infection.
4. To review whether all patients with cGvHD are receiving vaccinations against
pneumococcus, influenza and Haemophilus influenzae
Standards
and criteria
Criteria range: 100% or, if not achieved, there is documentation in the case
notes that explains the variance.
Standards
1. Patients with chronic graft-versus-host disease should be reviewed by a team
experienced in managing transplant-related complications
2. Referral to a specialist e.g. ophthalmologist, dermatologist should be
considered for patients with significant symptoms
3. Prophylaxis against viral, fungal, Pneumocystis jiroveci and Streptococcus
pneumonia infection should be considered in all patients receiving
immunosuppressive agents for chronic GvHD
4. All patients with chronic GvHD should receive vaccination against
pneumococcus, influenza and Haemophilus influenzae.
Method
Sample selection: All patients diagnosed in the preceding 12 months.
