THE NOR’EASTER
Special Edition
Vision Without Boundaries
January, 2002
Barbara Griggs CAP
Northeast District Director
I’m sending this special edition to wish you a Happy
New Year and to let you know of upcoming events in
the association. Looking back on 2001 perhaps you
see now as I do that we only have today. Pretend that
each day is the day before vacation. You know, that
great sense of accomplishment you feel as you head
off for a well-deserved respite. You’ve gotten so
much done and now you can enjoy yourself!! “Don’t
put off ‘til tomorrow what you can do today!!”
More information can be found in Bits and Bytes
which is now on the website. If you previously
experienced difficulty accessing the site and certain
pages, please try again as those problems have been
resolved.
Included in that issue is a tribute to member
Margaret Lewis by her friend Gloria Cutillo of the
New Jersey Division. Margaret lost her life in the
World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Congratulations Are In Order!
I am excited to hear that a number of Northeast
District members successfully passed the CPS and/or
the CAP exam that was held in November. Drop me

Northeast District Vision
To achieve our goal of being the finest district in
IAAP, we must be as creative as possible in
providing an exciting atmosphere for our members
and non-members; work with one another in an
unparalleled spirit of unity; educate our members
and associates in the latest technology and
administrative functions, be forerunners and experts
in our workplaces; and, finally, reach out with
passion to our respective communities.

**DISTRICT CONFERENCE FEEDBACK**
DECEMBER SCOREBOARD RESULTS
The New Jersey Division has increased their
membership by 1 new member for a total of 703 and
the New York State Division has achieved their growth
goal of 1 new chapter for a total of 18. To the Greater
New England and
Pennsylvania
Divisions, I’d say
it’s time to give
NY and NJ some
“good ole”
competition. And,
since we are down
to the last six months
of the season, it
becomes vitally
important to monitor
your chapter’s growth carefully. I’m hoping for a
record number of Distinguished Chapter Presidents at
Convention in Nashville and I hope you can visualize
that too. Chapter Presidents, are you following the
formula below for determining how many members
you’ll need to attain the growth goal? That’s how you’ll
get the “Distinguished Chapter President’s
Watch!!”
SETTING A CHAPTER GROWTH GOAL
Original June 30 Membership (when your year
begins)

Ending June 30 Membership (at the end of
your year)
This item will be placed on the agenda for discussion at
the Spring International Board of Directors Meeting
(March 2-3), and a decision will be made at that time.
I have received great feedback from the Northeast but
I still haven’t heard from every chapter. Please
continue to share your thoughts with me prior to that
time. Remember, the District Conference is an
International meeting and any decision made will affect
all district conferences not just the NEDC.

As you read recently in the latest electronic edition of
Action/Direction, the Board has begun addressing the
issue of district conferences - their purpose, usefulness,
and continuing practicality in light of new concerns
over travel, budgets and time effectiveness. Over the
past several years, the question of whether or not these
meetings should continue seems to be regularly
brought before the Board for consideration.
