The purpose of the PTB orthosis is to permit freedom of motion of the knee joint and early weight bearing without increased shortening of the limb or interference with fracture healing. Plastic orthoses are generally more cosmetic. They are lighter and offer greater flexibility in design. Plastic permits a closer fit and more precise control of pressure distribution. Foot Orthoses The orthoses that have been dispensed to you have been custom made to fit your feet length, width and contours of your feet. They have been designed to relieve stress/pain of your feet. INSTRUCTIONS: Wear your foot orthoses for 1 hour the first day and increase by 1 hour each day thereafter. If you have some discomfort you may want to progress slower. 2) Wear stockings/socks to eliminate the possibility of skin irritation. 3) Your foot orthoses will achieve what they are designed for in the proper shoe, such as a closed shoe design with a roomy toe box. Be sure to take your orthoses with you when you purchase new shoes. 4) Do not attempt to modify your orthoses yourself.
