Guidelines for Submission of Manuscripts The Journal of Austronesian Studies (JAS) is a refereed journal. Articles should be original and should not be under consideration elsewhere. Receipt of a submission will be acknowledged, and the article will be processed after the receipt of an electronic copy. E-mail Address: JAS@nmp.gov.tw Manuscripts of articles and reports should not exceed 25,000 characters in Chinese and 30 pages in English. Book reviews should not exceed 6,000 characters in Chinese and 5 pages in English. All manuscripts should be typed clearly on A4 paper, double-spaced and with a 2.5cm margins on all sides. A separate sheet should give the author’s name and academic affiliation, the title and a short abstract of no more than 1,000 words and no less than 500 words, and up to 5 key words. Papers should be submitted in pdf or doc format. Referencing should follow the style guidelines of the American Anthropologist. Footnotes should be kept to a minimum and should be presented at the end of the article, double-spaced, following the order of appearance. Bibliographic references within the text should list the author’s name and date of publication (e.g. Chang 1970). Extended references should be listed alphabetically at the end of the paper, for example: Chang, K.C. 1970 Prehistoric Archaeology of Taiwan. Asian Perspectives 13:59-77. Text figures, site plans, maps, etc. should be drawn on separate white-based paper suitable for reproduction. Plates should be printed on glossy paper. All illustrations should measure approximately twice the intended final size. They should be listed on separate sheets; numbered in pencil on the original. Authors must obtain approval prior to submission for reproduction of illustrations or other material if not their own. Page proofs will be sent to authors for checking. Rewriting is not expected on the page proofs. Failure to return proofs by the required date may lead to substitution of editor’s corrected proofs. The JAS are not responsible for any copyright infringement of the paper. Authors submitting manuscripts must sign Copyright License Agreement with the JAS, as the necessary step before Approving their manuscript for submission to the JAS. The JAS does not provide royalties. Five copies of the journal volume in which the article appears and fifty offprints will be supplied free of charge to authors whose manuscripts are accepted (two copies of the journal volume to book reviewers); these must be shared in case of joint authorship.
