JEAN M. GOLDSTEIN COMESS: DECEASED (Dec. 15, 2008, in VA. Beach, at age
66, after a 4-year battle with pancreatic cancer). After CNC, Jean earned a BA at
VCU, with a double major in social work and secondary education. Survived by her

UPDATE:
FAYNE G. McKNIGHT HEATH: DECEASED. At CNC, Fayne was a member of
the 1st Glee Club (1962-63), sponsored by biology instructor C. Fred Brewer, &
was given an Award by the VA. Chap., Natl. Soc. of Daughters of Founders &
Patriots of America for her outstanding achievement in American history. Fayne
next earned her BA, W&M, 65. She taught until her retirement at Jeffreys Grove
Elementary School, Raleigh, NC. Husband: Barry Wayne Heath (See below,
Others Who Attended). Son: Brian (or Bryan).

EUGENE THOMAS (TOM) HUGHES: DECEASED (April 4, 2007, in Nashville,
TN, of Leukemia). President of CNC’s first Circle K Club, 1962-63. US Navy for
4 yrs. Then attended CNC 1961-63. BA, W&M, 65. Also took graduate banking
classes at UVA and SMU (TX). Career in banking & business. Survived by 4

Moved to Houston, TX. & attended Univ. of Houston until drafted in 1966.
Attended Army flight school at Ft. Rucker, AL. Served as a heliocopter pilot in
Vietnam. As a Capt., planned to resign but accepted Army’s offer to go back to
college for 2 yrs. in return for 4 additional yrs. of service. Returned to CNC, 1970,
earned BS in Bus. Admin.72. Then MA, Educ. Admin., 73, Pepperdine U, Malibu
CA. Completed military career in Europe. Resigned, 79. Then worked for the Dept.
of Defense in Army Personnel, at the Pentagon, as Asst. Sec. of the Army for
Civilian Personnel, then as Dir. of Civilian Personnel, Ft. Huachuca, AZ, 1981-96.
Retired. Now owns Delios Italian Restaurant in Sierra Vista. www.deliosrestaurant.
com. Wife: Nancy (Ole Miss graduate). Daughter: Krista (U. of AZ graduate,

joined the Apprenticeship program at NASA for engineering technicians. Earned
2 CNC degrees—AA, 78, and BS, Business Adm, 79, while continuing career at
NASA Langley Research Center. Retired as Program Analyst in 1998. [Want to

RSPN, 65. Nursing career of 44+ yrs. began with 6 months at Riverside Hosp., in
N News. Next worked 1966-67 at Norfolk Health Dept. as a Graduate Public
Health Nurse. Moved to Florida & worked in MICU at Winterhaven Hosp., 67-69,
& then in Cardiac Intensive Care at University Comm. Hosp., Tampa, 69-71. Was
1 of the 1st 100 nurses in FL certified in CIC. Joined the VA Hosp., Tampa, as ICU
nurse; then transferred in 76 to the VA Hosp. in Hampton, working in the OR &
ICU. In 94, returned to Riverside to work in Radiology. Husband: George Frank
Skinner (ODU grad., 2 degrees; retired physical therapist).

GEORGE THOMAS (TOMMY) HASKINS: DECEASED (March 4, 2007, from
Leukemia). Attended CNC 1961-early 62 while also working in the NN Shipyard
to support his family. Left college when daughter, Mallory, was born. Continued
his career with the Shipyard, working first as a machinist, then as a specialist with
pump systems and repairs. After retirement in Nov., 1996, worked from home in
pump repair services. Wife: Kitty. Daughter: Mallory Haskins Young (teaches
English at LaFayette High in Williamsburg & has 2 sons, Tyler & Peyton). Son:
George T. (Tom) Haskins, Jr. (works for Colonial VA. Bank in Gloucester & has
2 sons, Grinnan & Henry).

RSPN. Returned to CNC for 65-66 session. Then joined Navy as Ensign, Navy
Nurse Corps. Served 1½ yrs. in Great Lakes, nursing wounded Vietnam vets, then
1½ yrs. in Morocco, N. Africa, nursing wounded from all services & also military
dependents. Left Navy as Lt. Married Bob (ret. Navy Signalman/Base Police) &
moved to Gloucester. Worked at Ft. Eustis as civilian nurse in Ob/Gyn. Left for
motherhood career. Later returned to nursing at Riverside’s Walter Reed. Stayed
for 31 yrs.. Retired, 2007, as Nursing Supervisor, night shift, but continue working
in labor pool. Husband: Robert (Ret. Deputy Sheriff, WJCC). Children: Susan
(JMU & W&M grad; teaches English at GHS), Barry (machinist; dau., Taylor), &
Jamie (CNU grad; Det. Sgt., Glo. Sheriff’s Off.; sons, Tucker & Ryker.)

Worked from 1965 until retirement, 2001, at Obici Hospital, Suffolk, as a nurse
in the Recovery Room and in Out-Patient Surgery. Did take time off (6 or 7 yrs.)
with 2 baby sons. Husband: John Henry Byrum (farmer). Sons: John Kevin (farms
with his father) and Michael (married, with daughter, Cambria, and owns a winemaking supply store in N. Little Rock, Ark.)

computer co. in Arlington. 3 daughters: Lila Ann, Piper Elizabeth, & Violet Joy)
& Heather Powell Marshall (ODU grad. 4 children: Sydney Ellen, Macy Veigh,
Alexa Massey, & Watson Edward Marshall).

USAF, & was married & stationed at Langley AFB in 1961. Attended CNC fall
sem., 61. Left after birth of 1st daughter & enrolled in NASA’s Apprentice School.
Worked in NASA’s machine shop 10 yrs., was sent to Northern Illinois Univ. to
study computers, & returned to NASA as a computer programmer. Retired in 1995.
Wife: Patricia (from Liverpool, England). 3 daughters: Gaynor Flynn (medical
tech., Norva. Children: Trevor, Meghan, & Colin); Janine Carneal (English
teacher, Menchville HS, NN); and Jillian Bales (Director, Credit Mgmt.Training,
Wells-Fargo, S.F. Children: Talbot & twin girls, Mary Elizabeth & Morgan).

while in school. After RN, worked as school nurse for Poquoson (all 3 schools). In
summers, attended CNC part time & also worked as clinical nurse for Riverside
Hospital, supervising nursing students. Earned BA, Psych, CNC, 72, and MS,
Admin, George Washington Univ, 76.Worked full time for Riverside for 33 years,
in various positions. Retired as Director of Quality in 2005. Husband: Robert
(retired from NASA).
UPDATE:
ROBERT WENDELL WILLIAMSON: DECEASED (Nov. 18, 1994, in Grafton,
VA, at age 51). Attended CNC 1961-62. Self-employed. Involved in Little League
coaching and music (trumpet & bugle). Survived by wife, son, & daughter. Obit:

Hampton Police Dept., 64. Drafted into Army May, 65, with promise HPD position
would be kept. Volunteered for Vietnam. Served there Mar, 66 – Mar, 67 (Cam
Ranh Bay) as Combat Engineer. Hon. Dis. as Spec. 4, March, 67. Returned to
HPD. Attended ODU pt-time, earned AA in Law Enforcement (3.7 PGA), 73.
Career highlights: mbr, 1st Vice Squad; Asst. Comdr., 1st Crimes Against Persons
Squad; Instr.,1st Pen. Police Acad; Asst. Comdr. of Communications, Warrants &
Records Dept. & Property & Evidence Dept. Voted Police Officer of the Year, 75,
by Knights of Columbus; was charter mbr (70) of Hpt. Frat. Order of Police, Lodge
26 & Pres. 6 terms; co-authored Police Officers Bill of Rights (74), now VA law.
