Dear Parents/Guardians & Seniors; CLASS of 2013,
Congratulations for making it to your senior year!! Please review the following information regarding
senior requirements and activities. Remember you control the success of your senior year. I hope you all
plan on taking advantage of these last experiences of your High School career.
You can help ensure your senior year is a positive learning and memorable experience by completing
and passing all classes, state exams and credits as necessary. These will allow you to satisfy all the necessary
credits/class/regents requirements to be eligible for the following Diplomas:

Regents Diploma (5 passed regents exams – Global, American, Math A, 1 Science, English);
Regents with Honors Diploma (5 regents above 90%);
Advanced Regents Diploma (Option A plus: 1 additional Science, Math B, Language);
Advanced Regents with Honors (8 regents 90% +);
HSMSE Endorsed Diploma with the NCSSSMST stamp (Option C plus 200 hours of
community service, and passing all PLTW or Mt. Sinai classes)
Please be advised that graduation eligibility is defined by the Chancellors Graduation Policy:
“Only students who have successfully completed all requirements for a High School Diploma, Including
Courses and State Exams will be permitted to participate in Graduation Ceremonies.”
With all of the pomp and circumstance of senior year, there are also its expenses. With well planning and
awareness of the coming deadlines the year will go a lot more smoothly. Below is a breakdown of all events
and costs. Some are mandatory (Graduation & Yearbook), some highly suggested (Prom) and other
events/costs are optional (Senior Trip, Photos and a High School ring) Please start budgeting for all these
activities now.
All payments MUST be made through a Certified Check or Money Order
made out to The High School for Math Science and Engineering.
NO PERSONAL CHECKS OR CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Please read the following pages carefully and complete the attached forms with the appropriate
deposits BEFORE the due date stated.
PLEASE BE ADVISED ALL SENIOR ACTIVITIES ARE A PRIVALAGE,
INCLUDING SENIOR TRIP AND PROM AND CAN BE REVOKED AT
ANY TIME DUE TO INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR OR ACADEMIC
FAILURE
Seniors also need to meet the NYC DOE attendance requirement to participate in all
senior activities, including trip and prom.

Senior Events and Responsibilities:
a. Mandatory Senior Dues: Graduation & Yearbook package = $170
Mandatory Senior Dues are required to be paid in FULL through a single payment of $170 on or
before March 1st. Any senior dues payment after this date will be subject to a late fee of $10 per
week, unless a payment plan has been requested prior to the due date. Please email Mrs. Hershinson
if you will need to make arrangements for this. Please remember the $170 senior dues are
Mandatory and Non Refundable. The following are included in Senior Dues:

Graduation: Included in the cost of Graduation are Hall Rental, Tickets, Programs, Awards
and medals, Cap and Gown, Diploma Case, and Flowers.

Yearbook: Color 100+ page personalized yearbook, everlasting memories of your experience
and friends of HSMSE. With 2012/13 world events insert. Yearbook cost is included in your
mandatory senior dues. Additional yearbook costs will hopefully be raised through yearbook
advertising and corporate sponsorship. Contact Ms. Boylan; Jboylan@hsmse.org For more
information on yearbook advertising or for a personal message to the graduating class of
2013.
b. Prom: $120.00 per ticket depending on Venue: To be held on Thursday June 13th. Location TBD.
Prom Deposit of $50 per ticket Due Friday, November 16th.
Note: This cost is based on 100 paying guests attending the Prom. If for any reason we do not have 100 paid seniors and
guests, the cost per person may increase or Prom may be cancelled. If this occurs, students who had made deposits will be
notified.
c. Senior Graduation Photos: $20 sitting fee, additional $20 for make up or re-shoot. TSS
Photography will be taking our senior portrait photos. Senior portraits will be taken on Friday
October 5th, 12th and 19th. You will be assigned a specific time for your photos. Please remember to
dress appropriately for your picture. A $20 sitting fee charge, (to be brought on the day of senior
portraits) covers the cost of the proof photos; if you order a package the $20 sitting fee will be
deducted from your package price. You will be selecting your Yearbook photo from these proofs.
Photo packages can then be purchased directly through TSS Photography.
 The Group Class Photo will be taken on Wednesday October 10th at 11:40am. Please
wear school colors or your team jersey if you play a school sport. There is no charge for
this photo.
d. Senior Rings: (Price based on ring choice) Purchasing a senior ring through Jostens is an additional
and optional cost. See Ring Information packet.
e. Senior Trip: $305: Traveling to The Hudson Valley Resort on the weekend of January 4th -6th. See
attached flyer for further details and what is included in the cost. HSMSE Senior Trip Deposit of
$75 due by Monday October 15th 2012.

PAYMENT DEADLINES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
ALL PAYMENTS MUST BE IN THE FORM OF CERTIFIED CHECK OR MONEY ORDER
PAID TO THE ORDER OF: THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR MATH SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
No personal checks or cash will be accepted!
Please make all payments separately (Trip, Prom and Senior Dues) and clearly state on money order what the
payment is in reference to. Please include the payment return forms with each payment. All payments must
be submitted directly to Mrs. Hershinson.
Senior Trip: Minimum Deposit of $75 due by October 15th
Final payment or balance due by November 29th 2012 (if you fail to pay your balance by the
due date you forfeit your spot on the trip along with your deposit)
*If a minimum of 40 senior deposits for the Trip are not received by October 15th
The senior trip will be cancelled and deposits returned.
Prom:
Prom Deposit of $50 due by November 16th.
(If a minimum of 55 prom deposits are not received by November 14th, senior prom may be
cancelled or ticket cost increased)
Final balance and guest ticket payment due by May 1st 2013.
Senior Dues: Full Payment of $170 to be made in one payment anytime on or before March 1st 2013. Senior
dues paid after this date will be charged a $10 late fee for each week late.
Any parents wishing to discuss other payment arrangements or plans as a result of not being able to
meet the payment deadlines above please contact me as soon as possible using the information below.
