Meeting Minutes for September 25, 2003 College Committee of the College of Science and Allied Health University of Wisconsin-La Crosse The meeting was called to order at 3:25 PM Present: Marc Rott, Rob McGaff, Becky LeDocq, Mike Jackson, Andy Matchett , Adrienne Loh, Rob Tyser, Dan Sutherland Excused: Rafique Ahmed Discussion and approval of past minutes was postponed until the next meeting of the Committee. The next meeting of the Committee will be in one week (October 2). The curriculum proposals that have been put forth by the Mathematics Department were discussed: LeDocq and Matchett provided a brief overview of the contents and purpose of MTH 126, a new course being proposed for inclusion in the general education curriculum. A discussion followed. Central in this discussion were the issues of inclusion in the Gen. Ed. Curriculum and restricting enrollment to education majors. The Chair will contact Emily Johnson to gauge her impression on the former issue and to obtain an overview of the current “climate” regarding new Gen. Ed. offerings. The committee discussed the Mathematics Department’s proposed new minor (Mathematics Minor with Education Emphasis) and major (Mathematics Major with Applied Emphasis). Bruce Riley, Chair of the Mathematics Department, will attend the next meeting of the Committee to discuss these proposals and answer questions of its members. The Committee discussed a proposed new SAH course entitled “Changing the Culture: Women in Science.” This discussion was in preparation for Bonnie Bratina’s attendance of the next meeting of the Committee. The discussion covered a wide range of issues and ideas related to this course, and to SAH courses in general. Marc Rott will summarize this discussion for Bonnie Bratina.
