Discussion and approval of past minutes was postponed until the next meeting of the Committee.
The next meeting of the Committee will be in one week (October 2).
The curriculum proposals that have been put forth by the Mathematics Department were
discussed:
 LeDocq and Matchett provided a brief overview of the contents and purpose of MTH
126, a new course being proposed for inclusion in the general education curriculum.
A discussion followed. Central in this discussion were the issues of inclusion in the
Gen. Ed. Curriculum and restricting enrollment to education majors. The Chair will
contact Emily Johnson to gauge her impression on the former issue and to obtain an
overview of the current “climate” regarding new Gen. Ed. offerings.
 The committee discussed the Mathematics Department’s proposed new minor

Applied Emphasis). Bruce Riley, Chair of the Mathematics Department, will
attend the next meeting of the Committee to discuss these proposals and answer
questions of its members.
The Committee discussed a proposed new SAH course entitled “Changing the Culture: Women in
Science.” This discussion was in preparation for Bonnie Bratina’s attendance of the next meeting
of the Committee. The discussion covered a wide range of issues and ideas related to this course,
and to SAH courses in general. Marc Rott will summarize this discussion for Bonnie Bratina.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:23 PM
