The Zambezi Blast - 12th - 19th September 2009 Charity Challenges just don’t get more exciting than this! Water sport enthusiasts class the Zambezi River as one of the BIGGEST white-water rafting destinations in the world . Beneath the mist of the Victoria Falls, deep in the Batoka Gorge would have to be one of the most dramatic places in the World to start a white-water rafting trip. From the very first rapid encountered, you have embarked on a river journey with some of the most exhilarating white-water and spectacular scenery that you’ll experience in your life. From the best white-water on the planet, amazing sandy beaches, to a helicopter flight through the Batoka Gorge and over Victoria Falls – read on as Africa delivers a feast. Itinerary Day 1: Depart UK for flight to Johannesburg. Day 2: Meet representative and fly to Livingstone, Zambia. Free afternoon followed by pre-trip briefing. Day 3: White-water rafting along the Zambezi River – Rapids include ‘Morning Glory’, one of the biggest commercially-run rapids in the World, ‘Stairway to Heaven’, ‘The Devil’s Toilet Bowl’, ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ and ‘Midnight Diner’, featuring one of the biggest waves ever seen on a river. Day 4: Continue – Creamy White Buttocks’, ‘The Mother’ and one of the most thrilling rapids on the whole trip – ‘Oblivion’ with wave after wave of white-water hitting the rafts! Day 5: White-water rafting continues – ‘Morning Shower’, ‘Open Season’, ‘Chamamba’ and the amazing finale to the day, ‘Upper Moemba’. Day 6: White-water rafting then transfer by helicopter beneath the gorge rim, back past the rapids to Livingstone, Zambia. Presentation dinner. Day 7: Transfer to Livingstone airport for flight back to the UK. Day 8: Arrive UK. Prices The challenge requires a minimum sponsorship of £2,945, £1,400 of which goes directly to Seafarers UK. There is also a registration fee of £399 (which can be paid in instalments) and a compulsory insurance fee of £45. The Zambezi Blast is an open challenge. This means that it has not been set up exclusively for Seafarers UK, but is organised and run by the highly qualified charity challenge events company Global Adventure Challenges, who will be your main contact for this event. First of all you need to fill out a Registration Form and return this together with the non-refundable Registration Fee and compulsory Travel Insurance. You will then receive a detailed fundraising pack full of ideas to help you raise the sponsorship money. What sort of people will be taking part? Individuals from all backgrounds and walks of life will be taking part in the Challenge. What people will have in common, is the enthusiasm and commitment to take part. How fit do I have to be? You do need to have a reasonable level of fitness to take part, but you do not have to be "super fit" or a "professional athlete"!! We suggest that you slowly build up your fitness levels over the months leading up to the Challenge. How much support will I receive on the Challenge? Throughout each Challenge, professionals will be on hand with the rest of the team to ensure that safety and quality of training is of top priority. The Challenge will also be supported by English speaking guides. Full training will be given where necessary on events such as white-water rafting, ensuring the safety of all participants. What is ATOL, and what does it do? For your peace of mind, Global Adventure Challenges holds an ATOL 'Air Travel Organiser's Licence'. This protection is included in the cost of all our overseas challenges. ATOL protects you from losing money or being stranded abroad in the unlikely event that Global goes out of business. Global has lodged a bond with the Civil Aviation Authority so if this occurs, the CAA can give refunds to people who can's travel and arrange for people abroad to finish their challenges and fly home. What about Travel Insurance? Compulsory Travel Insurance must be taken through one of the Insurance Companies listed below:How do I raise the minimum sponsorship money? You will receive full support and fundraising tips throughout the months leading up to the event. Once you have registered you will receive a comprehensive, detailed fundraising pack including sample letters and press releases for you to send out to local newspapers, companies and people that you know. The nature of a Challenge Event and the good cause that you are supporting will encourage a great response from your local area. Many participants find they easily raise above and beyond the minimum sponsorship required. Payment Option A - What happens if I don't raise the amount required? First of all - Don't Panic!! You will have been asked by the Charity to raise a percentage of the sponsorship money by a certain date. If you cannot do so it is possible that you may forfeit your right to take part. However, if you are having difficulties please let the Charity know. Remember, you are not on your own, with fresh ideas and support you will succeed. The Charity will also try to put you in contact with other people taking part in your chosen Challenge Event so you can support each other and exchange fundraising tips. Can I stay on, once I have finished the Challenge? Extensions are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If you wish to extend your stay after completing the Challenge, you can make arrangements for flight transfers and accommodation through Global.
