Native American Cultural Regions Essential Questions: What was North America like prior to the arrival of Europeans? How did the geography of North America impact the development of Native American culture? What are the potential consequences of European arrival on the Native American cultures in North, Central, and South America? Step One: Your Region __________________________________ ( /20 Points) Step Two: Assign Responsibilities ( /20 Points) Geographer- ____________________Creates a large map of the Native American Cultural region then and now. These maps should include: Major map elements; major physical features (rivers, mountains, deserts…); labels for the cultural groups that once, and still do, live there; a map of the area today with the state name, major cities labeled and major geographic features. Researchers- ____________________Uses the graphic organizer, text and outside sources to research and gather information about their region and groups. They also organize and create the presentation poster with bulleted information. Researchers will also create a short multiple choice quiz to be given at the end of their presentation. Curators- _____________________Plans and gathers materials to build a model of a structure that would have been found in the region and create any other teaching aides that will help the class learn about the region and cultures. Presenters- _____________________The group will present their information with visuals, posters and models to the class. Presentations should be creative, interesting and informational. Step Three: Planning ( /20 Points) Look above at the job description for each of the responsibilities. You do not have to just work on your responsibility, but can help with other parts of the presentation. Remember you are a team. Step Four: Class Presentation ( /20 Points) The group will present their information with visuals, posters and models to the class. Presentations should be creative, interesting, informational, and answer the three essential questions above. Native American Cultural Regions Step Five: Assess Your Students ( /20 Points) Using the quiz that was created by your group’s researchers you will assess whether or not your student’s learned what it was that you wanted them to learn during your presentation. Remember 20% of your grade depends on whether or not the class does well on the assessment. Students’ information was accurate, relevant and demonstrated the fact that they went above and beyond in gathering information Students’ presentation was highly organized, visually appealing, easy for the class to follow and planning and preparation was evident Based on the post assessment the group succeeded in teaching the class about their cultural region and this is evident by the assessment results Each group member was attentive and respectful during the other group’s presentations and asked questions Students worked together for the most part and utilized most of the given time in an efficient manner.
