You provided further clarification for a previous request for information from the
Ministry of Justice.
You wanted clarified whether I wanted the information to relate to initial or final
pleas. The request relates to offenders who pleaded not-guilty, but sentenced
after being found guilty after trial by jury. I assume that would be regarded as
the final plea, that is, the final plea entered before any trial and sentencing.
You originally asked for the following information from the Ministry of Justice:
Between 25th August 2000 and 4th April 2005;
i- how many people were convicted of making/distributing indecent images of
children after pleading not-guilty but found guilty after trial?
ii- how many of these people were given a custodial sentence?
iii- how many were given a non-custodial sentence?
iv- of those given a custodial sentence, how many were sentenced to up to (a)
1 year prison, (b) up to 2 years prison, (c) up to 3 years prison, (d) up to 4 years
prison, (e) up to 5 years prison, (f) over 5 years prison?
v- of those given a custodial sentence, how many were also sentenced to an
extended period of licence?
vi- if a licence was imposed how many were for (a) up to 1 year, (b) up to 2
years, (c) up to 3 years, (d) over 3 years?
Your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
