OVERVIEW
The Program had 34 members during this year working in a variety of settings, including VGH,
Providence, VCMHS, Geriatric Mental Health North Shore, Delta, Burnaby, Royal Columbian Hospital
in New Westminster, White Rock, Riverview, Royal Jubilee in Victoria, Prince George and Kamloops.
Approximately ½ of the members sent information for the Annual Report. This information is
amalgamated from this below.

FUTURE DIRECTIONS 2008/2009
1. A retreat is planned for October 17th, 2008 to review Undergraduate Education in Geriatric
Psychiatry, to review Post Graduate Education in Geriatric Psychiatry, as well as sub-specialization
and to set up a committee to standardize training in Geriatric Psychiatry for the coming mandatory
six-month Geriatric Psychiatry rotation.
2. The Program will be involved in writing a response to the Ombudsman regarding the evaluation of
long term care in B.C.
3. The Program will be involved in planning for sub-specialization as we learn more from the Academy
about how that will be perceived.
4. Dr. Stephen Kiraly: Representation for Geriatric Psychiatry on the BCPA Executive
Committee.
