Spring Quarter - Good Questions from Students
1.
How do Washington people make you feel , do they seem
distant ,happy, kind of shady, silly, not so friendly. What are
your feelings, at the time of your judgment against the
Washington people, are you thinking of some fight at home, or a
not so restful night? Did you happen to have a smile on your
face when you were passing by a group or person in Washington?
2.
Have you had a dream where you were falling, and when you
woke up you could remember the experience? Did you think it was
a heart beating wake up call, or some weird dream, or some sort
of spiritual sign? So why, out of all the dreams you have had
you still remember this one?
Very nice, except the “why” at the end – explain and compare.
3.
A question not to ask a person who is on psychoactive
medication:
Did you get put in the nut house, and play with yourself all
day?
Yeah, ok.
These two questions are for the box that says "has taken a personality test":
1. For some of the questions did you have not so clear answers?
2. Did the results describe who you see yourself as?
Nice, somewhat overall
when you got the results, what was your first reaction?
Now, as you look back, did the results describe…
I-2 feels people in washington aren't all too friendly
1. how do you react to people in Washington when they aren't friendly?
Tell me about the last time someone wasn’t friendly?
How did you react?
2. what goes through your head when people are mean to you and what do
you feel like telling that person?
NICE to focus on thoughts. Still overall (vs. parts or specific experiences)
Bingo Question: has had a near death experience or has had a dream where
they were falling.
-Good follow up questions: what were you feeling at the time? did you
react how you always thought you would in that type of situation? (2nd one –
might be explanation: perhaps, did anything about your reaction surprise
you?)
-Bad follow up question: were you scared?
I decided to focus on the first box under the O column. I met one of
my classmates Laura and would like to ask her the following
questions about her near-death experience:
1. How long ago was your near-death experience?
good start
2. When you were holding your sister up so she could obtain air, you
mentioned that you couldn't breathe so she was able to. What was going
through your head at that exact moment?
nice
I believe that the following question is a question NOT to ask:
1. Did you think you were going to die?
Bingo Square: Potty Trained Somebody?
What was the first tactic that you tried?
Follow Up Questions:
Did you have a more difficult time with pee or bowel movements? Is a
comparison
Can use for parts – pee usually trained first, so: How did pee go? Then
bowel.
Bad question: Was it hard?
Knows what ADD/ADHD stand for
What does it stand for?
Do you know some one who has it?
I might try: how did you come to know it?
(cf. Psychiatrist – what brings you to see me?)
As Being a twin, do you sometimes feel that you’re not seen as a individual?
Remember, the tough thing is, they’ve never not been a twin. Is this
a comparison?
Questions off of the bingo square that asks if somebody has seen a MRI or
PET scan of the brain:
1. Which did you see?
2. Do you know the differences?
Also: Did someone explain them to you? Why were they telling you?
3. What do they show?
4. Were they have somebody you knew or was it for a class?
I started talking to Jerome during the bingo game and asked him
the question if he works in mental health, etc. He said yes.
I thought that this was very interesting. I asked him where he
worked? and what is it like?
He works at Western State Hospital. He said its a pretty
interesting job but is kinda weird place to work out.
I think a question you shouldn't ask somebody is if you know
someone on psychoactive medication.
Mr. Link, here are my two follow up questions on the article about deaf
parents and hearing children.
1. Do you feel more comfortable speaking in sign language with your family,
or talking in english with other people?
Comparison
2. Is it harder for you to go from sign to talking or from talking to sign when
interpreting between people and your parents?
Comparison – choose one and ask to describe
how was the experience in psychology class in high school like for you, what
did you gain?
overall, gain implies evaluation
Q.
Someone who fells people in Washington aren`t all too friendly.
Q.1. Did you get your assumtion that people are not friendly
in Washington because of something that occured to you
physically and/or emotionaly? Therefor is there a place in
Tacoma or Seattle that you have been to that people are more or
less unfriendly than the other?
I might start more general. Can you think of when you just
moved here (or first visited), what kinds of interactions did
you have?
I like the 2nd question - parts, gets the person to start
sorting through memories (may lead to explanation/analysis)
Q.2. Do you think that there was something
with in you that could of made them more unfriendly?
Calls for explanation
The most interesting choice on the bingo game answer card was Marlons
choice for "having been concerned for their safety while walking to their car
at night". I was very surprised and taken back that he would be concerned
for his safety while walking alone at night. He is a bigger man and seemed
like the type that wouldn't be afraid of such a thing. He said it in such a
comical way that I had to smile at the thought of such a guy being afraid to
walk alone. The two questions that I asked him to try to find out more
information about this psychological phenomenon was/would be
1. Was there an experience in your past that caused you to fear walking
alone at night?
2. What area are you in that would cause this fear or is it (the fear) just in
general.
I did find out that Marlon came from a city of high crime and that he is
currently in the Hilltop area of Tacoma and this has caused his fear. It still
made me laugh because he seemed like the type of guy I would ask to walk
me to my car if it was late at night for security. Although when I found out
about the area I understood why he would be afraid. I show vacant homes in
all areas of Tacoma by myself at many hours of the day and night, although
in general not after 9:00 I don't usually get scared but he is defiantly the
type that if I was worried about security I would have asked to accompany
me especially if in Hilltop.
