FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Grade 9-12 FOREIGN LANGUAGE INFORMATION
Foreign Language may be studied by all students. Students in the class of 2005 and all classes
thereafter must have 1 high school credit in LOTE for the new Regents diploma. This may be
earned by passing the Second Language Proficiency Exam (with at least a score of 65) at the
end of 8th grade or passing a LOTE course in grades 9-12. Students need to pass the
Comprehensive Regents Exam in LOTE, usually administered at the end of Level 3, for the
Advanced Designation on the Regents diploma, along with passing two additional exams (math
and science). ( The 5 credit alternative in the Arts and Technology may be used instead of the
LOTE Regents to meet the Advanced Designation requirement.)
