NORFOLK ISLAND ACT 1979
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ELECTION
In accordance with sections 38 and 39 of the Norfolk Island Act 1979, a person is qualified to be a candidate for election
as a member of the Legislative Assembly if, at the date of nomination, the person (a)
has attained the age of 18 years;
(b)
is entitled, or qualified to become entitled, to vote at elections of members of the
Legislative Assembly; and
(c)
has been ordinarily resident within Norfolk Island for a period of 5 years immediately
preceding the date of nomination.
A person is not qualified to be a candidate for election as a member of the Legislative Assembly if, at the date of
nomination, the person (a)
is an undischarged bankrupt;
(b)
has been convicted and is under sentence of imprisonment for one year or longer for an offence
against the law of the Commonwealth or of a State or Territory; or
(c)
is a member of the Police Force of Norfolk Island or of the Commonwealth.

NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES FOR ELECTION
The Administrator has determined 12 September 2001 to be the date for an election to fill a vacancy in the office of the
Legislative Assembly.
Under section 12 of the Legislative Assembly Act 1979, nomination day is Wednesday 22 August 2001
The nomination of a candidate for election to the Legislative Assembly is to be effected by delivering to the Returning
Officer, not later than noon on nomination day, a form in accordance with Form 1 in the Second Schedule to the
Legislative Assembly Regulations, signed by the candidate and by at least 2 electors.
Nomination forms may be obtained from the Returning Officer at the Administration Offices, Kingston.

ELECTORAL ROLL
ARE YOU ENROLLED ON THE ELECTORAL ROLL? If you are not enrolled, you will not be eligible to vote at the byelection of the Legislative Assembly to be held on Wednesday 12 September 2001.
Qualifications for enrolment, in summary, are as follows:
(a)
you must have attained the age of 18 years; and
(b)
you must have been present in Norfolk Island for a total of 900 days during the period of 4
years immediately preceding the date of application.
The roll will close at 5.00 pm on Wednesday 15 August 2001. Enrolment is compulsory.
If you are a student under the age of 25 years, and you have been absent from Norfolk Island for the sole or principal
purpose of undergoing full-time vocational training or full-time education, you may qualify for enrolment.
Application forms for enrolment may be obtained at the Post Office and the Immigration Office at Kingston.

I, Ronald Coane Nobbs, Chief Minister and Minister for Finance and Government Services, under paragraph 5(1)(a) of
the Lighterage Act 1961, hereby further amend the specification of charges dated 11 March 1993 (as amended by
instruments dated 19/4/96 and 27/8/97) to be paid for or in relation to the operation of the Lighterage Service –
(a)
by omitting item 3(b) headed “Waiting Time”; and
(b)
substituting the following –

Paid for the period when, on board the vessel, a machinery breakdown, lack of correct
machinery or equipment, or necessity to rearrange cargo stowage prevents discharge, or
