We will be working with a variety of different materials throughout the class. You will have the opportunity to learn and practice drawing, painting, graphic design, printmaking and sculpture. Come prepared to put forth your best effort and you will have fun and be successful in this class! Rules and Procedures: 1. Come to class on time 2. Come to class prepared every day bring a pencil, your art folder and sketchbook 3. Be respectful to others and yourself 4. Follow directions 5. Use Art materials wisely and clean up after yourself Homework: All students are provided with adequate class time to finish projects and sketchbook assignments. If students are absent, or need more time to finish, they must finish the work on their own time. I am available after school if students need extra time or instruction. STEP#5 Parent call- also an apology for the behavior problem. “These steps will adjust to the severity of behavior in class.” Homework/Work: Students will be given selected assignments that will represent their ability to comprehend classroom instruction and represent their learning of the subject. Homework may be accepted late with some grade adjustment according to reason for the lateness. The goal is to represent their learning, not to fail because of the inability to turn in assignments. Grading Policy: Work is graded. Late work will be accepted and graded accordingly. Performance work will be graded. Some extra credit is provided for the classroom through assignments or through the performance evaluation. Classroom Expectations School Year 2009-2010 Course: FACS-6th Grade Family and Consumer Science Teacher: Mrs. Britton Requirements: Students are expected to complete assigned classwork, homework, and projects. They are also expected to work with a group of other students to successfully bake twice in the 10 weeks. Rules & Procedures: Classroom Rules and Expectations: Be to class on time and prepared to work Respect people Respect property Be responsible for your work and your actions Follow all school rules Procedures 1. Student is given a warning and problem is discussed with student 2. Seat changed 3. Lunch detention 4. Phone call home 5. Removal from class, phone call home, after school detention, and possible referral Homework: We will complete work in class both independently and as a group. Students will be expected to complete a few homework assignments outside of class. Students will also work on a career research project that may require some time outside of class. If a student is not up to date on their assignments, they will not be allowed to bake. Classroom Expectations School Year 2008-2009 Course: 6th Grade Computer Basic Skills Teacher: Chris Tynan Requirements: Students are expected to come to class focused and prepared to complete all assignments to the best of their ability. Rules & Procedures: Computer and Internet Use Policies will be discussed and signed during the first days of class. It is required that all students follow these rules. Homework: Homework may be assigned on an occasional basis and it is the responsibility of the student to keep track of homework assignments using his/her agenda planner. Grading Policy: Grades will be based on homework, class work, projects, tests and quizzes, and organization. Bring To Class: Students should bring a pen/pencil, lined paper, 5 tab dividers, and a small (1”-1 ½”) binder to class each day. Classroom Expectations School Year 2009-2010 Course: Physical Education Teacher: Mr. McGuane, Mr. Lafave, Ms. Gorham, Mr. Overend, and Ms. Crandall Requirements: All students will be expected to dress appropriately. This must be a full change of clothes from what was worn to school. Socks and sneakers must be worn for each class. The Unprepared Policy states that each time a student is not prepared for class, they lose 10 points. This can be avoided by having your PE clothes and being on time for class. A student may make up the class to prevent the loss of points, if it is made up during the same marking period. Whenever an unprepared is made up, it will be removed from the students’ record and all points will be returned to their grade. Unprepareds can be made up during study hall or advisement or after school. Grading Policy: 20% skill 20% written 60% participation Students are expected to be on time, be prepared, participate in all activities, demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior and demonstrate an understanding and respect for differences among people. Bring To Class: We will go outside in temperatures 40 degrees and warmer, so plan accordingly. In addition, keep in mind that the grass may be wet during certain parts of the day. The laces must be laced and tied over on top of the tongue so the sneaker is secure on the foot. NO slip on, platform, roller skate or zipper sneakers are permitted. ** Jewelry: No chains, lanyards, dangling or hoop earrings, watches, rings, bracelets or any other piece of jewelry that would put the student or others at risk during activity. Medications: Many students need to take medications before engaging in physical activity (i.e. an inhaler). We ask that students take their medications responsibility at the time prescribed. This will allow for the safest environment and most fun during activity. Additional safety rules include no chewing gum or jewelry in class. Other: During the first two days of class each student will be issued a lock and locker in the appropriate locker room. The locks are all school issued Master combination locks. Instructions will be given on how to operate the lock, and time will be allowed for practice. We will keep records of each student’s locker number and combination; however, it is important that each student keeps a copy in a safe place in addition to memorizing it. We also ask that you do not share lockers or your combinations, and that you lock all your belongings up during class, as we do not want you to have anything stolen. If a student loses or misplaces their lock, they are required to pay for it in the main office before being issued a new one. Classroom Expectations School Year 2009-2010 Course: 6th Grade Chorus Ensemble Teacher: Mr. Daniel S. Schroth Requirements: The Singers (students) will need to come to practice and sing in rehearsals. Students will learn to sight-read, warm-up, have vocal try-outs, engage in musical activity, maintain a folder, sing by sections and participate in the scheduled concerts and dress rehearsals. Classroom Expectations School Year 2009-2010 Course: Band 6-8 Teacher: Mr. Graziano & Mr. Woods Requirements: Students should bring a good attitude and an open mind to class. Students must also have a working instrument or drumsticks. Rules & Procedures: 1) All members are important. For us to be our best we need each and every member of the band to do their best. 2) All concerts are required. 3) All band members will receive small group lessons. This is scheduled on a rotating basis. Homework: Students are requested to practice 100 minutes per week. Grading Policy: Our grade breakdown is that lessons count 2/3 of the grade and band rehearsal etiquette and concert attendance is 1/3. Bring To Class: Students need to have their instrument or drumsticks and a pencil for band rehearsal. For small group lessons, each student needs to have their lesson book as well as their instrument/drumsticks. Other: There are several additional, extra-curricular activities for members of the band. They include: All-County Band Festival, Parade Band, Winterguard and NYSSMA Solo Festival. A.I.S.
