We thank the French office for their efforts to correct our French proposals for the
scheme (Annex 40) and the definitions (Annex 42).
Nevertheless our experts did not fully agree with the proposed translation of the term
'actuator' in the field of power-actuated locks. The proposed term "élément
d'actionnement" for this subject-matter is merely used in patent documents.
Therefore we prefer the term "actionneur" at least in the cases where the term refers
to the actual power-driven device in the form of a motor, solenoid, piezo-actuator or
the like. Further, the French term "actonneur" is frequently used in patent documents
for this type of powered actuator devices.
On the other hand Rapporteur admits, that in cases where the subject-matter refers
to a chain of kinematically linked elements forming together an actuation
arrangement the term "éléments d'actionnement" or "moyens d'actionnement" would
be a more appropriate translation.
The consolidated French versions of the scheme (Annex 47) and the consolidated
definition proposals in English and French (Annex 48,49) have been modified
accordingly by using these terms. Due to the comments and discussions related to
the French translation the following changes have been introduced in the approved
English version of the scheme (Annex 34, Technical Annexes - WG27 ) and have to
be approved:
