Life in Medieval Towns Reflection
I participated in an interactive dramatization about diseases and medieval
medical treatment. In the dramatization, my role was the doctor and my other group
member Frank was my assistant. My last group member Jerry was the welcome and
buy “guy” and he answered the costumer’s questions. My jobs for the preparation of
the dramatization were historian and another job. I managed two jobs.
I think our group’s performance was not bad. We didn’t go lost or get confused.
We explained well so our visitors could understand what was going on. But one
improvement we should do is, during the dramatization, some people did stuff that
was other people’s role. For example this person has to pull out a tooth but than
someone else did it directly. In my dramatization, I learned a lot of things, how people
were treated in medieval times when there were sick. They had many different ways
of healing than today. For example, one visitor had a fever, so doctors check their
astrological sign (zodiac) and look at the stars to see what they say. There are
sometimes funny ways to heal based what the stars says. Sometimes you have to run
around a building and drink a glass of orange juice after that!
I think if I would life in a medieval town, I would quite enjoy it. One reason is that
at that time, some medical treatment was a little bit better than now and not so
painful. For example when you have fleas, they give you wormwood (a strange smelling
plant) so when the fleas smell it they will get off. Lives now and in medieval towns are
different and sometimes similar. Different would be for example comparing with now;
medical treatment is a little bit better now. In medieval towns, many children die
early because medical treatment isn’t so good than now. Also people there won’t life
so long. But some things are also similar. For example many medieval fashion are the
same as today, dresses, jackets, cloth made out of animals.
