2. Hezbollah attacked Israel from the north. Many cities, such as Haifa,
Tiberias, Safed, Metulla and Kiryat Shmona, were attacked. Israel bombed
targets in Lebanon. Many civilians were killed, both in Israel and in Lebanon.
3. Italy won the World Cup in football.
4. IDF reservists return from Lebanon and protest the terms of the ceasefire.
5. Rockets hit Kiryat Bialik. There was much destruction.
6. An Israeli tank fires at Hizbullah targets on the northern border
7. American Secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice, visited the Middle East
and met with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. She also met with Arab leaders.
8. French soccer star Zinedine Zidane head-butted Italy’s Marco Materazzi in
the football finals. The Italian accused the Frenchman of cursing his mother.
9. An Israeli tank crosses the border into southern Lebanon.
