(a) Actions/positive news from your organization since last meeting:
Games with a Purpose DVD – The 2nd in a series of LTAD DVD’s from Sport Manitoba
is the Games with a Purpose DVD. Games with a Purpose focuses on teaching 6
fundamental physical literacy’s (Balance, Running, Jumping, Throwing, Catching and
Striking) as well as great age appropriate mental training activities. The DVD is intended
for parents, early childcare educators, teachers and coaches working with athletes in the
Active Start and FUNdamentals stages of the LTAD model, specifically with 4-8 year
olds. The DVD shows 3 fun activities and games to reinforce the participant’s
acquisition each of the 6 literacy’s.

Request from ELA and Literacy Consultant – Search for Model Teachers – consultant
currently scheduling some visits in high school classrooms across content areas to begin
gleaning some pictures of practice for the Reading is Thinking framework. She is
looking for some recommendations of Grades 7-12 teachers who:
-Exhibit strong formative assessment practices

-Integrate disciplinary literacy (literacy particular to the discipline) or general
literacy practices within their teaching.
-Might be open to photo and video taken of them in action, students in action,
classroom set up, resources, student work, etc. related to the above 2 bullets.

Heart and Stroke Foundation
