Making Molecular Models – MAKE UP
Find the Build a Molecule simulation at: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/build-a-molecule
Directions: For every molecule you construct:
A. Click on the 3D button to view a 3D model and the ball and stick model.
B. Draw a Ball-and-Stick model of that molecule (ball and stick model).
(Use the card inside the model set to tell you which color sphere represents which element.)
C. Draw the structural formula for this molecule (Lewis structures with lines representing bonds).
D. Determine the shape of the molecule.
E. Determine whether the molecule is polar or nonpolar. If the molecule is polar, then
draw an arrow on your structural formula indicating the direction of the dipole
moment.
