To understand genetic principles through experiments and observations in the laboratory. 2. To gain experience with techniques of modern genetic research. Lab preparation and participation: The labs meet Tues. from 10-11:50 am in room 205 Physical Science. There is no laboratory manual for this course. Handouts will be passed out in lecture for each week's lab and will also be available on the course web page. You should read the handouts carefully before coming to class. Please make an effort to arrive for the start of lab, when instructions are given. Lab assignments (worksheets, etc.) are described in the lab handouts and will be clarified in class. You will be expected to attend and carry out every lab, although there is some flexibility; you may be able to make up the lab at a lab makeup time (typically Friday afternoon). For some labs, especially the Drosophila linkage lab, you will also need to come in at other times. Late Assignments: Most assignments are due the week after the scheduled lab as indicated on the lab syllabus, unless a later due date is given by the instructor. Late assignments will receive a 10% penalty.
