The ladies of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. support other student organizations and actively participate in community service, campus, and multicultural events. One of the organization’s main objectives is to strengthen the future of society through education by providing intensive social and cultural activities geared towards Latin American culture to promote diversity and personal growth; and Whereas: The ladies of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. are organizing the Baylor University Latina Awareness Conference, an event scheduled on October 25th, 2008; and Whereas: The Baylor University Latina Awareness Conference extends and invitation out to everyone. Not only is this the conference an opportunity for Latinos to better understand and promote their own culture, but also, it fosters greater understanding and diversity with the community-at-large. The conference puts the modern Latina Woman in perspective and shows how she has evolved and adapted to a world outside her cultural norm, as well as the impact she has made on today’s society; and Whereas: Organizations helping host this event include the Hispanic Student Association, the ladies of Kappa Delta Chi and Sigma Iota Alpha, the Department of Multicultural Activities, and the Director of Multicultural Activities Pearl Beverly; and Whereas: Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. along with the partnering organizations, are following the success of Baylor University’s 1st and 2nd annual Latina Conferences in 2003 and 2004; and Whereas: The hosting organizations aim for an attendance of 200 persons for this year’s Baylor University Latina Awareness Conference, double that of the previous conference; and Whereas: The Baylor University Latina Awareness Conference will consist of two workshops. The theme of the first workshop is Latinas in the Professional Field. The theme of the second workshop is Latinas and Wellness. Lunch will follow the workshops along with the address from this year’s keynote speaker, Evelina Solis. Furthermore: The officers of GAO will meet with the Attorney General within seven business days. Furthermore: Unused money from the SGAF will be returned to the SGAF in an expedient manner. Furthermore: The SGAF will be recognized in a visible manner and given due credit throughout the event.
