Nikos Zilikis, MD, PhD Associate Professor of Psychiatry – Adolescent Psychiatry Nikos Zilikis was born in Thessaloniki, 1953. He obtained his MD degree from the Aristotle University Medical School in 1971, and is a registered Psychiatrist and Child Psychiatrist. He has been holding academic posts since 1982 at the Medical School, and obtained his PhD degree in 1991. Actually, he is associate professor at the 3rd psychiatric department, AHEPA University General Hospital. He has contributed in the creation of the first psychiatric departments in general hospitals in Greece, first in Alexandroupolis and then in Thessaloniki. Since 1990, he participates in the development of the Child and Adolescent Service at the same department, and he has planned and directed the creation of the Adolescent Unit of the AHEPA GH. It is a novel service comprising outpatient, day hospital, and hostel facilities, while a Helpline is to be added soon to the unit’s potential. Over 30 years, N. Zilikis has a long clinical experience in various services, including all types of facilities: in- and out-patient, community mental health centre, mobile units, consultation-liaison psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and in the psychiatric reform and “sectorisation” in Greece. Since 1982 he participates in the teaching and training programmes in psychiatry and child-adolescent psychiatry for medical pre-and post-graduate students as well as for residents in both specialties. Besides his teaching at the Medical School, he is regularly invited to teach at other faculties and universities, as well as at psychiatric and child psychiatric departments. He has also participated in various training programmes addressed to mental health professionals in Greece. Through his active participation in both the Hellenic Psychiatric Society and the Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, he participates in the organization of training programmes for residents and specialists in both specialties. He has participated in the supervisory and examination committees of a significant number of doctorate dissertations, and during the last three years he is a member of the examination board for the specialty of child and adolescent psychiatry. N. Zilikis has been constantly active in international, inter-university collaboration: he participates in the teaching of foreign ERASMUS students, supervises post-graduate and doctoral dissertations, and maintains an ongoing collaboration with other European universities within the ERASMUS-SOCRATES project. In parallel with his clinical and teaching activities, N. Zilikis has developed a research work in the fields of psychiatry and child-adolescent psychiatry. The results of this research activity have been presented in many national and international congresses and conferences, and are published in Greek and international books and journals. Nikos Zilikis is a member of seven Greek and international scientific societies. He is actually president of the Child Psychiatry Section of the Hellenic Psychiatric Society, and, since 1999 up to date, vice-president of the International Society for Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology.
