Artificial Inseminations in local cows & buffaloes to produce cross breed animals having high milk yield. 2. To provide health cover to animals. 3. Technical advise to increase production from animals i.e. milk , meat ,eggs, wool etc. 4. vaccination of animals against different contagious diseases. 5. Technical guidance in animal nutrition. 6. Distribution of fodder seeds under various schemes to motivate the farmers for more fodder production. 7. Castration of scrub bulls to stop the production of inferior quality animals. All above activities are organised and implemented through state sector and local sector veterinary institutions. 8. Conservation of animal Genetic resource. District Animal Husbandry office Akola Works under C.E.O Zilla Parishad and District Veterinary Dispensary are under him. All of the Govt Plan Scheme are implemented by this office through (L.D.O.Extension) Panchayat Samitis. Regional Disease Investigation Laboratory, Akola Regional Disease Investigation Laboratory is a Regional institute of Amravati division. This institute look after the diseases investigation of different disease & control of epidemic in the region. Veterinary Polyclinic, Akola This Institute is head institute of District for disease control and treatment, x-ray of animals for diagnosing diseases , difficult major operation, examination of samples etc. are conducted by this institute. Veterinary Mini Polyclinics There are Five Veterinary Mini Polyclinics i.e. Akot, Balapur, Murtizapur, Barshitakli and Patur in Akola District. This Institute is head institute of Taluqa for disease control and treatment, difficult major operation, examination of samples etc. are conducted by this institute. District Artificial Insemination Centre This institute supply Frozen semen doses to all veterinary dispensaries in the Akola & Washim district as well as supply of liquid nitrogen to preserve the Frozen Semen doses. Technical guidance for pregnancy diagnosis and infertility cases of all dispensaries. Intensive poultry Development Project, Akola Objectives of project:1) Foundation stock of Rhodo-white Variety of poultry is kept at the farm and hatching eggs are supplied to poultry farmer for hatching. These eggs are hatched under local hens. And by this way chicks of improved variety are produced at backyard of farmers. 2) Supply of 8 week old birds (10 Pullets + 1 Cockrel) to SC & ST families on 50% subsidy under various plan scheme. 3) 15 days training programme is organised regularly for Rural youths and farmers to promote the self employment. Integrated Survey Scheme Statistical survey of milk, eggs, wool, meat, cattle feed etc, are performed under this scheme. All statistical information on economic traits from field level is collected and submitted to Commissioner of AH Pune for further analysis. Various Plan Schemes Implemented by Animal Husbandry Department 1) Assistant to Control Foot And Mouth Disease . 2) Special Livestock Production Programme. 3) Supply of life saving drugs and anthelmentic medicine to sheep & goats. 4) Supply of fodder seeds for fodder production. 5) Establishment of Veterinary Dispensary. 6) Organisation of Infertility work camps. 7) Supply of milch animals. 8) Supply of milk ration to milch animals. 9) Supply of Sheep and Goat units. All above schemes are implemented by District Animal Husbandry Officer, Zilla Parishad Akola. Maharashtra Livestock Development Board State level Maharashtra Livestock Development Board Office is working at akola since September 2003. This office engaged in identification of animal Genetic resource in local animal, protection and conservations of local breed and implimentation of modern techniques in artificial insemination work.
