ORSA - Obiettivo Ricerca e Studio e Aggiornamento Associazione senza scopo di lucro Advanced course on breast pathology: from histology to molecular pathology Ian O Ellis Professor of Cancer Pathology School of Molecular Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences Department of Histopathology, City Hospital, Nottingham Jorge S Reis-Filho Molecular Pathology Team The Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre, Institute of Cancer Research, London April 7th – 8th 2011 Trento – Italy Under the patronage of: Provincia Autonoma di Trento Assessorato alla salute e politiche sociali Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari Unità Operativa di Anatomia ed Istologia Patologica Ospedale S. Chiara di Trento Lega per la Lotta Contro i Tumori Sezione Trentina Italian Society of Anatomic Pathology & Cytology (SIAPEC) Italian Division of the International Academy of Pathology The aim of this course is to provide clinic-pathologic lectures and interactive case discussions using the virtual slide technology. Professor Ian Ellis will cover several aspects of breast pathology, illustrating unusual breast lesions and critical aspects of histopathological diagnosis, including the evaluation of morphological parameters of prognostic and predictive value. Dr. Jorge Reis Filho will illustrate molecular aspects of breast pathology, including progression pathways and future developments, and its actual role in histological and clinical practice. The target of the course are general surgical pathologists. The number of participants will be limited to 80 people and therefore early application is advised. The participants will be accepted on a first arrived first served basis. Since the number of participants is limited, cancellations are to be communicated to the organizing secretariat as to allow other people to attend the course. Please contact the organizers and ask for availability before registering. During the interactive microscopic sessions Prof. Ian Ellis will present a set of teaching cases. All participants are strongly encouraged to freely discuss the cases shown by Prof. Ellis, in an informal and constructive way. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own unusual/problematic cases, along with a brief clinical history, to be discussed. These cases should be scanned with the Aperio technology. The Department of Surgical Pathology of the S. Chiara Hospital in Trento has the facility to scan these slides, provided that slides are received them at least 10 days in advance.
