Digital Project Proposal Form Penn State University Libraries Fiscal Year 2010/2011 Project Title: Drawing Cards from the Albert A. Anderson Jr. and Evelynn M. Ellis Art Education Collection __________________________________________________________________ Application Submitted By:Sandy Stelts _____________________________________Date:_January 28, 2011 Brief Project Description (abstract of 100 words or less): This is the first of a multi-year proposal to scan important portions of the Albert A. Anderson, Jr. and Evelynn M. Ellis Art Education Collection, which consists of some 650 rare American art instruction books published between 1794 and the mid-20th century. The sets of illustrated drawing cards have remained little known to scholars. Few survive because they were passed around from student to student and used heavily, often to the point of disintegration. We hope to begin the digitization of the Anderson/Ellis Collection with the cards and then scan significant items from the collection annually, using our exhibition catalogue *Teaching America to Draw* as our guide. ____________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ Is this a _X__ New Project_____ continuation ___”redo” Scope of the Collection Format of Original Check all that apply 1 Duplication of Effort Years of coverage: __1849 to 1890_____________________________________________ Number of items/boxes/etc.: ca. 600 scans of cards (sometimes recto and verso) , envelopes, and printed matter ______________________________________ Other (please specify): ___________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ X Data or data sets Text (books, journals, manuscripts, newspapers) Maps Visual materials (photographs, postcards, slides, etc.) Audio Video Multimedia Microfilm Other formats (please specify): ___________________________________ X Content has not been previously digitized Content is not under consideration for digitization by another entity Other (please specify): _________________________________________ 2 Intellectual Rights For additional information see http://tlt.its.psu.edu/dmd/ teachact/ or Contact Becky Albitz rsa4@psu.edu How Project Fits in with the Libraries’ Mission and/or Strategic Plan 3 Check all that apply and explain on separate sheet (for additional information see https://intranet.libraries.p su.edu/home/groups/ad mintf/digitization_review. html ) X Source materials are in the public domain University owns or has intellectual property rights to the content University has acquired permissions in perpetuity (or for long-term) from owner University’s use of content can be justified under fair use guidelines and the University is able to control online access Intellectual property rights/ownership issues need further investigation ATTACH DEED OF GIFT DOCUMENTATION WHEN APPLICABLE X Supports one or more of the University’s or Libraries’ Strategic goals and missions (for additional information see https://intranet.libraries.psu.edu/etc/medialib/psulstaffmedialibrary/admin/documents.
