This position undertakes duties in the support of Council’s tree planting program and general park maintenance functions.
The duties in this role maybe varied to meet seasonal demands. Specific objectives include the operation of major plant especially the skid steer loader to:
Prepare sites for planting through site levelling and minor grading
Preparing tree planting holes
Maintenance and minor refurbishment of treated surfaces including rubble paths, access tracks and BMX tracks
Loading and spreading of mulch and other landscape materials
Provide assistance to other Parks and Landscape teams on reserves and verges including levelling, minor site preparation, boring holes, landscaping, cleaning and general support.
All tasks will be undertaken with the efficient, safe and effective operation of plant and equipment

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
At all times adhere to the provision of the Work Instruction for the plant being utilised and all other Work Instructions pertinent to tasks undertaken.
In accordance with the provisions of the Work Instruction for the plant being utilised, observe all safety precautions to protect fellow workers and the general public.
Assist in establishing work sites with appropriate signage and barriers in compliance with Australian Standard AS 1742.3.
Prepare sites for planting as instructed by the Leading Worker using the appropriate plant, including levelling, minor grading, excavation, hole drilling using Auger, etc.
Maintain and repair treated surfaces including rubble paths, access tracks and BMX tracks.
Loading, transporting and spreading of mulch and other landscape materials as directed.
Provide assistance to other Parks and Landscape functions on reserves and verges including levelling, minor grading, compaction, landscaping, cleaning and general support.

Support other sections of the Asset Services Department requiring services within the capabilities of the plant being utilised as directed.
Appropriate competencies / licences are required for the plant being utilised.
Utilisation of hand tools and all safety equipment when working with equipment, machinery or materials.
Maintain equipment in a clean, safe and serviceable condition in accordance with the recommended operating practices.
Undertake operational duties as required that may include operation of other plant or equipment where suitably licensed and experienced.
Erection of temporary signage in accordance with the Work Zone Traffic Management
Australian Standards.
Encourage sound work practices and high standards or workmanship.
Work under supervision of the Leading Worker / Coordinator.
Other duties as required from time to time, as per direction
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Observe and comply with all health and safety policies and procedures within the City of Salisbury including all safe operating procedures or instructions.
Take all reasonable steps to ensure personal safety and that of others is not put at risk through any act or omission in relation the above.
Report any identified hazards, incidents including near misses or injuries which arise in the course of work, using the systems and/or documentation available for such reporting.
Fulfil individual requirements to meet any documented OHS objectives arising from biannual performance and development reviews.
Not endanger personal safety or that of others by undertaking work whilst under the influence of alcohol or a drug in breach of Council’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
Undertake OHS training where required, in order to perform duties (refer to OHS
Competency Assessment).
Carry out hazard identification and risk assessment of operations.
Carry out daily pre-operational checks.
Operate plant in accordance with the relevant owners manual and Work Instruction.
ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
This position reports to the appropriate Leading Worker for the duties undertaken.
This position then reports to the Coordinator Tree Services for tree planting duties and the Coordinator Feature Landscape for other park maintenance works.
Direct reports to this position include the Manager Parks and Landscape.

Specialised Skills
Capable of safe and expedient operation of a skid steer loader and attachments to a level 1 operator standard.
