RACE INFORMATION
1. OC6 CANOE ELEGIBILITY
Canoes need to meet NKOA standards. Canoe Safety checks will be
conducted before racing.
2. CANOE LOANS
The Takapuna Beach Cup is not responsible for canoes loaned by other clubs
to paddling crews. Please handle the canoes with great care and respect at all
times. The event does have public liability insurance with Marine Hull cover.
Teams will need to ensure all equipment and canoes are returned in the
same condition as hired.
Note Takapuna Beach Cup do not arrange the OC1, OC2 or OC3 for teams
these should be arranged directly with contacts. We can help with contacts
where possible.
3. CANOE STORAGE
Canoes may be off loaded and stored on the grass reserve next to the
Takapuna Boating Club for overnight storage on the Friday and Saturday. We
will have security guards monitoring the site area overnight.
4. COMMUNICATIONS
All Officials will have cellular and radio communication. All Support boats will
have VHF radio and cell phone communications & there will be a PA system f
or announcements.
5. EMERGENCY/ INCIDENT PROCEDURES
Assistance required while in the water – Paddle to be held up above your
head and waved.
The crew manager or support boat captain will determine whether
emergency help or assistance is needed:

6. MEDICAL
St John Ambulance service will be present on Saturday & Sunday for any
medical & emergency services.
7. MERCHANDISE
Merchandise will be on sale throughout the event; a stall will be set up under
the event marquee on the grass reserve.
8. OFFICIALS
Please see page 2 for full list of Key Event Officials and contact details.
9. OFFICIAL RACE NUMBER STICKER
The race number sticker is to be placed on the right side of the canoe in the
front (bow). Please note this may change due to alternate courses being
initiated due to bad weather conditions.
A race number sticker will also be placed on your respective support boat for
the 42km Marathon Race.
10. PADDLERS REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO RACING

11. PARKING TRAILERS
We have secured parking for canoe trailers for Saturday and Sunday. We will
have parking assistants at the event site area to assist with parking the
trailers, please note this parking space is on Killarney Street, Takapuna. The
Old Fire Station.

12. PHOTOGRAPHER & FILM CREW
There will be a professional photographer and videographer crew taking
pictures and filming throughout the races. All photos & videos will be posted
on our website & Facebook page and free to download.
13. RACE BRIEFINGS
All race briefings will be held on the grass reserve. Please ensure at least one
of your crew members attends your race briefing. An attendance form will
need to be signed.
14. RACE CATEGORIES
Open Men, Women & Mixed - 16 years & over in calendar year of
competition
Master Men, Women & Mixed - 40 years & over in calendar year of
competition
Senior Master Men, Women, & Mixed - 50 years & over in calendar year of
competition
Golden Master Men, Women & Mixed - 60 years & over in calendar year of
competition
15. RACE START PROCEDURES
7km, 42km, 35km, 24km, 8km, 12km & 16km Races
Five minute warning of start will be by an announcement. Red Flag will
indicate approximately one minute before start. Green Flag and blast of horn
indicates racing can commence. Flag times are a maximum
and may
be reduced at the Race Director’s discretion. At the start, crews are required
to have one team member standing no deeper than waist deep in the water
beside their canoe. If a crew fails to do so before the race commences, they
will be subject to a time penalty at the Race Directors discretion.
Relay Races
All relay races will start on the water between two start buoys. Five minute
warning of start will be by an announcement. Red Flag will indicate
approximately one minute before start. Green Flag and blast of horn
indicates racing can commence. Flag times are a maximum
and may be
reduced at the Race Director’s discretion.

16. RACE FINISH PROCEDURES
All relay races will be electronically timed and will require a run finish on the
beach over the timing pads or through the finish chute. Once you have
completed your race please ensure your canoes are out of the way of other
crews finishing the race and that you hand in you timing device. All other
races do not need to cross the pads but do need to finish through the
allocated finish line as discussed at the briefing.
17. RACE RULES
Please ensure each member of your crew is familiar with our race rules.
These can be found on our website and will be available at the registration
office

18. RACE TIMING & TRANSPONDERS
Race Timing NZ, will be in charge of all relay race timing.
Each crew will be given a transponder (timing device). This device will be
linked to your bib/race number. Transponders are to be worn around your
ankle, please ensure these are on properly.
All paddlers will be given a timing device to wear
ALL TIMING DEVICES TO BE RETURNED. There will be a box and volunteers
collecting the devices.
Please note if you device is not returned you will be charged $50
19. REGISTRATION
Registration office is inside the Takapuna Boating Club and open from,
11.00am on Friday, 7am on Saturday and 6:30am Sunday. Please note that
registration will close at 12.30pm on Friday, 9am on Saturday and 9:30am on
Sunday. You must ensure payments have been made prior to collecting race
pack.
At registration you will be required to sign in and will then receive your Race
Pack. The race pack will contain the following items –

2. Waiver Form
3. Waka Safety Check Sheet
You will then be required to get your Waiver Form and Waka Safety Check
Sheet signed.
Once these forms are completed and signed, please return these to the
registration office where you will then be handed your transponder. (For
relays).
20. SECURITY
There will be security guards at the Event Site to monitor the area and to
watch over any canoes that may be left over night on the Thursday, Friday
and Saturday.
21. WASTE MANAGEMENT
Takapuna Beach Cup are committed to ensuring we limit waste at our event.
Please ensure the bins provided are used for both recycling and general
waste. It is also encouraged to use reusable equipment/ drink bottles where
possible.
22. SUPPORT BOATS
-
Have the waiver signed and return to race management before the start of
the race
Have adequate lifejackets for those onboard and a first aid kit
Observe anchoring rules off Takapuna Beach – area bound by Takapuna
Boating Club, buoy off the ramp and Takapuna reef green marker pole
Stay behind the canoe unless preparing for or dropping off paddlers for a
crew change
Turn the motor off when dropping off or picking up paddlers
Approach paddlers in the water on the starboard side where they can be
seen
No interference with another canoe
Ensure there is a non participating observer on board

23. WAIVERS
A Waiver form for each crew must be signed by all Paddlers of that crew and
returned to the Registration Office in order to receive the crew’s race pack
with the Official Race Number Sticker.
NO PADDLERS MAY PARTICIPATE WITHOUT HAVING SIGNED WAIVER FORMS
