WRITTEN SPECIFICATIONS
K9 KIT FOR LARGE SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES
( Ford Expedition, Ford Excursion, Chevy Tahoe
Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon )
An insert will be installed into rear of vehicle to safely and comfortably transport a dog. The main
housing of the insert will be fabricated from .125” (3003) smooth mill finish aluminum and will have
no sharp edges. All hardware that is exposed to dog will be stainless steel. The overall size of housing
will be 46” wide X 48” long X 33.5” high.
The rear passenger seats must be removed to allow K-9 compartment to be located behind the front
driver and passenger seats. Drivers seat must have full rear slide travel and partial recline. There will
be additional cargo / storage space with access through the rear doors. The dog will enter / exit
through the front sliding door of insert into the drivers compartment or through the side passenger
doors.
The front wall of the housing will have a 16” wide X 30” high opening with sliding door. The door
assembly will have nylon friction slide tracks, spring-loaded locking pin, 8” long handle and a rubber
gasket to minimize rattle. The sidewalls will have a 22” wide X 28” high opening on each side.
Additional side filler / tunnel assemblies will enclose the space between the vehicle side doors and
main housing. These side fillers will also include a step to aid the dog in entering / exiting. A hinged
non-slip floor section to cover the step well area.
All walls (front, sides and rear) will have perforations half way down to maximize ventilation and
visibility. The lower half will be solid sheet for easy cleaning. Each wall will be fabricated / punched
from one piece of material. Front and rear walls will have provisions for an optional center divider.
Perforations in the ceiling will be positioned to allow vehicles with rear air conditioning ducts to blow
directly into K9 compartment. Two (2) additional perforated areas for mounting an optional air
circulation fan are also included. A four-inch (4”) diameter stainless steel dome light with a .250” clear
polycarbonate guard will be mounted in the center of ceiling. On/off switch will be installed into a
switch box. The location of switch box to be determined prior to installation.
A one-piece floor will be attached to the vehicle by the side filler / tunnels or support legs in front of
unit. The rear will be bolted to the vehicle cargo floor. A durable .250” thick “Masticated” rubber mat
will cover the entire K9 floor area. It must be easily removable for cleaning.
Both interior passenger doors will have O.E.M. door trim, switches and lock mechanisms removed.
They will then be covered with .062” white powder coated aluminum door panels. Each panel must be
attached to doorframe with removable hardware. Aluminum window guards will cover upper glass
area and will have a hinge to allow the guard to fold down for easy window cleaning. The top of guard
will be attached to a secondary mounting plate with machine screws.
Note 1: Vehicles without electric locks must have door lock pin assembly moved to forward side of
door to allow lock pin to be accessed when drivers door is open. Window crank handle will be
removed, but will have spindle left intact to allow window to be opened when needed. Handles to be
stored in glove box.

Note 2: All perforations in front bulkhead, front door, rear wall, side walls and window guards
will be .625” by 1.250” diamond shape and will be configured in a pattern to maximize visibility
and strength.
Locations in the walls for optional 12” fan will have a series of .318” x 2.00” oblong perforations.
FINISH:
All aluminum parts will have a White powder coat finish. The front, rear, side walls, ceiling, floor and
door panels will have a super durable white polyester powder coat finish. The center sliding door and
door window guards will have a black polyester powder coat finish. The profile of the aluminum substraight will have proper pretreatment preparation to withstand a minimum of 1,000 hour salt spray
exposure (per ASTM-B117 testing). Written test results must be available upon request.
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT:
FAN: 12-volt 95cfm fan will be mounted on exterior side of K9 compartment ceiling. This quite fan
system will circulate air within the vehicle providing better ventilation. For Dual compartment units, a
second fan is used. (See KK-K9-HA-FKT for other fan option)
WATER BOWL: 7” diameter 8” deep stainless steel water bowl with “U’ shaped .125” (3003)
aluminum mounting bracket with 1/8” black gimp trim.
DIVIDER: A center divider will be provided to allow the single K9 compartment to be divided into a
Dual compartment system. The solid aluminum wall section will have the ability to be slid in from rear
cargo area when carrying two dogs. It will have brackets on the exterior side of front and rear walls to
securely hold it in place. Rubber gasket material will be used to eliminate rattles. A center cover plate
will be included on rear wall for when the divider is not used. Also includes white powder coat finish
