Academic Honest Policy
Academic Conduct:
Be honest and trustworthy; I hope that I will not need to implement disciplinary action for
students failing to adhere to this rule. This offense has serious repercussions.
A. Do your own work. Do not allow others to copy or cheat off of you; this includes
revealing information that provides an unfair advantage to others. Do not copy or
plagiarize. Use the definitions below to help further your understanding of
plagiarism/academic dishonesty:
a. Plagiarism – the adoption or reproduction of ideas, words, or statements
of another person without due acknowledgement.
b. Self plagiarism – the submission of the same work for academic credit
more than once without permission.
c. Fabrication – the falsification of data, information, or citations in any
academic exercise.
d. Deception – providing false information to an instructor concerning a
formal academic exercise, such as saying the dog ate your homework.
e. Cheating – any attempt to give or obtain assistance in a formal academic
exercise without due acknowledgement.
f. Sabotage – acting to prevent others from completing their work.
g. Fraud – outright purchase or copying of an entire paper.
B. During test and quizzes, keep your eyes on your own paper, cover your answers,
and do not talk.
C. Failure to follow any or all of these rules is cheating.
Consequences for Cheating:
a. First offense: Work is confiscated and the student earns a permanent zero on
the assignment. The teacher contacts the parent(s) to discuss the academic
dishonesty and its affect on the student’s grade.
b. Second offense: Work is confiscated, the student earns a permanent zero on
the assignment, student receives a referral, and an administrator will contact
parent(s) regarding the severity of the issue, and the student’s academic
dishonesty is recorded in his/her academic file.
c. Third offense: Work is confiscated, the student earns a permanent zero on the
assignment, an administrator will contact parent(s) regarding the severity of
the continued issue, the student’s academic dishonesty is recorded in his/her
academic file, and an administrative will assign additional consequence.
