Academic Honest Policy Academic Conduct: Be honest and trustworthy; I hope that I will not need to implement disciplinary action for students failing to adhere to this rule. This offense has serious repercussions. A. Do your own work. Do not allow others to copy or cheat off of you; this includes revealing information that provides an unfair advantage to others. Do not copy or plagiarize. Use the definitions below to help further your understanding of plagiarism/academic dishonesty: a. Plagiarism – the adoption or reproduction of ideas, words, or statements of another person without due acknowledgement. b. Self plagiarism – the submission of the same work for academic credit more than once without permission. c. Fabrication – the falsification of data, information, or citations in any academic exercise. d. Deception – providing false information to an instructor concerning a formal academic exercise, such as saying the dog ate your homework. e. Cheating – any attempt to give or obtain assistance in a formal academic exercise without due acknowledgement. f. Sabotage – acting to prevent others from completing their work. g. Fraud – outright purchase or copying of an entire paper. B. During test and quizzes, keep your eyes on your own paper, cover your answers, and do not talk. C. Failure to follow any or all of these rules is cheating. Consequences for Cheating: a. First offense: Work is confiscated and the student earns a permanent zero on the assignment. The teacher contacts the parent(s) to discuss the academic dishonesty and its affect on the student’s grade. b. Second offense: Work is confiscated, the student earns a permanent zero on the assignment, student receives a referral, and an administrator will contact parent(s) regarding the severity of the issue, and the student’s academic dishonesty is recorded in his/her academic file. c.
