These Regulations refer to the conduct of the course in the Session 2010/11 but are subject to change from time to time. Notice of change will be given in subsequent editions of these Regulations.
Students should enquire as to the up-to-date position when they need to know this.

The project may take one of the following forms: i. ii a university-based individual industrial design project supported by presentation boards and a report that will be supported by an oral presentation an industry-based individual industrial design project supported by presentation boards and a report that will be supported by an oral presentation
The project must be approved and the report submission must be made no later than four years after the initial registration. Industry-based projects require the appointment of an approved industrial supervisor in additional to an academic supervisor. All project work will be double marked.
Subject to the approval of the Design School, candidates may work on the project concurrently with the undertaking of taught modules.
The professional design practice will consist of a period of time spent within an industrial design environment where the candidate will be practising as a professional industrial designer. The period of time will be equivalent to no less than three calendar months of full-time working. The work undertaken may relate to a series of design briefs or a single brief but should be largely completed before submission for assessment is made. Submission for assessment will take the form of a combination of a design folio and a written summary of the work undertaken.
Where a candidate does not successfully complete the major design project, they may be awarded a
Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert). Where a candidate does not successfully complete the professional design practice, they may be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip).

ASSESSMENT
All taught modules provided by the Design School will be assessed on the basis of coursework.
Modules from other departments may be assessed by examination, coursework or a combination of both.
In accordance with Regulation XXI, candidates who have the right of re-assessment in a module will be offered an opportunity to be re-assessed in a special re-assessment period.
