JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION:
Health & Safety Instructor Coordinator
Non-Exempt/Hourly (Part Time)
REPORTS TO:
Health and Safety Manager
DIRECT REPORTS: Health & Safety Instructors (paid and volunteer)
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
Under the direction of the Health and Safety Manger, the Health and Safety Instructor
Coordinator is responsible for the scheduling of Health and Safety Instructors, instructor
professional development opportunities, quality control and performance management of
instructors, and the coordination of H&S volunteer training and volunteer career
development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Any combination of training, education and work experience
equivalent to a Associate’s Degree.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years of successful professional experience
in an program management, administrative or customer service related field.
Prior experience in a not-for-profit organization is also preferred.
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Strong customer service
skills and a commitment to quality service delivery; excellent oral and written
communication skills; strong analytical skills, highly organized with the ability to
multi-task and consistently meet deadlines. Ability to work with diverse members
of the public, paid staff and volunteers. Staff performance management and
human resource experience helpful. Must posses a valid Nevada driver’s license
and proof of insurance.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure that appropriate Instructors are assigned for all Health and Safety
courses.
2. Coordinate professional development opportunities for Health and Safety
instructors.
3. Provide career development counseling and career path planning for
assigned Health & Safety volunteers including instructors.
4. Ensure quality control and conduct annual performance reviews for assigned
staff. Working with the Health & Safety Manager, provide appropriate
corrective actions when necessary.
5. Ensure appropriate databases and systems are maintained.
6. Other duties as needed and or assigned.

Performance Standards
1. Ensure that appropriate Instructors are assigned for all Health and
Safety courses
 All Health and Safety (First Aid, CPR, etc) classes are staffed with
qualified instructors maintaining established ‘instructor to student’
ratios.
 Confirm schedules with instructors and ensure that courses are
staffed at least one week in advance.
2. Coordinate professional development opportunities for Health and
Safety instructors.

 Schedule and coordinate appropriate instructor courses, instructor
bridge courses (cross training into other instructional areas), and
in-service workshops for assigned staff. Ensure diversification and
capacity to meet instructional needs as required to meet reach
and revenue goals.
 Support the efforts of the Health & Safety Supervisory Committee
as they work to develop instructor trainers.
 Ensure assigned staff are offered additional training (beyond basic
training listed on their job descriptions), promote diversified
opportunities to serve, and seek out beyond the chapter
opportunities for staff enrichment.
3. Provide career development counseling and career path planning for
assigned staff including instructors.
 Ensure new staff leads as provided by the volunteer services team
or human resources department are contacted within 48 hours.
Using approved job descriptions, work with newly assigned
volunteers and employees to develop a career path.
 Ensure assigned staff are getting the basic training they need for
their positions within time frames as listed in their specific job
description.
 Facilitate instructor transfers within 72 hours of request.
4. Ensure quality control and conduct annual performance reviews for
assigned staff. Working with the Health & Safety Manager, provide
appropriate corrective actions when necessary.
 Provide day to day supervision of chapter Health & Safety
Instructors and assigned staff. Conduct annual performance
reviews for assigned staff.
 Ensure instructor compliance with Health & Safety Instructor
Procedures and Expectation Guide.
 Monitor results of customer satisfaction surveys. Consult with
Health & Safety Manager on identified trends needing
improvement.

Support quality control efforts and performance improvement
strategies as directed by the Health & Safety Manager.
Schedule and conduct quarterly instructor meetings for the
purpose of continued quality control and instructor professional
development.
Support efforts of the chapter’s Quality Control Committee as
directed by the Health & Safety Manager.
5. Ensure appropriate databases and systems are maintained.
 Monitor and maintain instructor data in the Learning Management
System (LMS) with 90% accuracy.
 Maintain contact information in Outlook shared contacts with 90%
accuracy.
 Maintain instructor hard copy files. Ensure compliance with NHQ
record keeping policies for content and retention.
6.

Training:
Online Self-Paced Courses (take upon hire):
 New Employee and Volunteer Orientation (2 hrs)
 Introduction to Disaster Service (2 hrs)
Instructor Led Courses (take within 60 days of hire and remain current):
 First Aid with Adult, Infant, Child CPR/AED
Instructor Led Courses (take when scheduled):
 Supervisor Essentials (3 days),
 Working Together (8 hr),
 Working with Total Diversity (8 hrs)
