Lanercost CE Primary School
Number 10 June - 2015
Dear Parents,
I hope that you have all had an enjoyable break with your children and that they are suitably
refreshed for the remaining seven weeks of the summer term. Let’s hope that the weather
improves enough for sun cream and sun hats to be needed, especially as we have lots of
outdoor activities planned.
School Questionnaire:
Please can you return your questionnaire by Tuesday 9th June so that we can evaluate your
responses and look for ways to improve your child’s education.
Welcome back to Miss Vaughn and Miss Reed our Student Teachers:
Miss Vaughn and Miss Reed join us for their second placement and will be with us until the 3rd
July. They will be working with class 1 and 2 during this time.
Poetry with Rowan McCabe:
The children in class 2 and 3 had an exciting and entertaining day with Rowan, a professional
performance poet from the North East. The day was spent working on the poem ‘McCavity
the Mystery Cat’ and ‘Fruit’ which both classes will be performing at the Lanercost Festival.
Please remember to come along on Tuesday 23rd June, 10.00am at the Priory.
London Residential:
Please could we have any outstanding forms back as soon as possible? Also, I must mention
that any person who has designated themselves as the emergency contact must be available
at any point during the period of time we are
away, if we need to contact you.
Success for Lanercost Orienteering
Team:
The final event of this year’s School’s
Orienteering League took place at Hammonds
Pond; once again there were some strong
performances from the ten Lanercost children
who took part (Anna, Daniel, Fern, Felix,
Hannah N., Lucy H., Luke, Mena and William A.)
Unfortunately, Kieran B., Lucy S., Lee, Sophie,
Tom and William H. were not able to attend as
they were busy playing cricket in the Kwik Cricket tournament. Overall the team came 6th out
of the 15 schools which is a fantastic achievement for the children and the school.
Kwik Cricket Tournament:
The annual small schools Kwik Cricket tournament was held at Lanercost
prior to half term. Our team comprised of Kieran, Lee, William G.,
Sophie, Lucy, Hannah R., Ben, Tom, William H. and David. Despite an
early win against Cummersdale, we were narrowly beaten by eleven runs
to Rosley and then again to Great Corby. Well done to all those children
who took part and to Mrs Simpson who helped with organising the teams
and umpiring.
News from the Garden:
We are very pleased to let you know that Elaine and
Keith Nightingale (Sebastian and Nina’s
grandparents) are going to be working alongside
Fran and Karen on the garden, with the view to
taking the garden over. Fran and Karen will be
taking their expertise to other schools who do not
have the benefit of having a garden. We are
extremely grateful to all their time that they have
given to digging, hoeing and planting over the last
five years. Children have been busy planting seeds and we hope to have a bumper crop of
onions, carrots and beans later in the summer.
Flag of the Month Homework:
You may have noticed that there is a new flag flying
outside of the school for the month of June.
Reminder -Whole School Photograph and Year 6 – Wednesday 3rd June:
