JANE LOUISE McCUE, MBBS FRCS MS
Jane McCue is Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and Medical Director at the East & North Herts NHS
Trust. A Consultant General Surgeon by background she received extensive surgical training leading
to her sub speciality area of expertise in Colorectal Surgery. In her chosen specialty she has been a
council member of both the Association of Coloproctology and the Royal Society of Medicine,
Section of Coloproctology.
As Medical Director and former President of the Association of Surgeons in Training, Jane has vast
experience as a member of working parties, committees and associations both nationally and
regionally and as a member of external review teams visiting other hospital including, most recently,
the Keogh reviews.
As a practising surgeon, Jane also has had responsibility for the direct supervision and training of
surgical trainees as well as clinical nurse specialists. She led a Colorectal Unit designated suitable
for specialist training. Her educational activities are extensive and her numerous rôles have included
Executive Director level responsibility for Medical Education within East & North Herts NHS Trust;
External Examiner for MB BS, Imperial College; Tutor or Lecturer on numerous surgical courses.
For the Royal College of Surgeons she is an Assessor for Consultant appointment panels and a
reviewer for the Annals journal.
She spent 30 months undertaking clinical and experimental surgical research on colorectal
carcinogenesis. Her academic output includes around 60 peer-reviewed academic articles and
presentations.
Her managerial experience as a Consultant has included positions as Medical Director of the Mount
Vernon Cancer Network, Co-Chairman, Planned Care Programme Board of East of England SHA;
Co-Chairman, Surgical Workstream “Looking to the Future” for East of England SHA; member of the
Women in Surgery committee; and Clinical Director for Surgical Services East Herts NHS Trust.
A resident of Bengeo, Jane is married with two children and at home she enjoys gardening, reading
and entertaining. Her outside interests include tennis, skiing and dancing and she is a keen traveller.
