Chartered Management Institute Accreditation Factsheet RAF ACS Staff Induction Course Qualifications Summary CMI Level 3 Qualifications in First Line Management (QCF) are developed for supervisors and first line managers who have operational responsibility for a defined area of activity. They are designed to develop communication and motivational skills to help improve operational efficiency. They support development by motivating and developing the people who work in the team or department; fostering effective communications and developing a sense of team/corporate identify. CMI Level 5 Qualifications in Management and Leadership (QCF) are developed for practising middle managers aspiring to be senior management who want to develop their core management and leadership skills. They focus on the personal development of individual capabilities and competencies. Level 5 Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQ) portray practical management and leadership skills and competences that are rated in academic terms as being comparable to Diplomas of Higher Education, Foundation Degrees and HNDs. Overview Instructors who successfully complete the ACSIC can apply for 2 different, but linked, qualifications that have been accredited by CMI. The first is the CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management Coaching and Mentoring (QCF) and the second is linked directly to the highest level qualification accredited to the particular course instructed. Learners have options to apply for a dual award without having to do any additional work for the CMI as shown in the table below: No additional work options: OPTION 1 CMI Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring (QCF) (5C2) with 24 credits All instructors Units 5014, 5015, 5016, 5017 OPTION 2 for CMI Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management (QCF) (3C1) with 19 credits JMLCinstructors: Units 3004, 3005, 3008 OPTION 2 for CMI Level 5 Award in Management and Leadership (QCF) (5A1) with 7 credits IMLC instructors Unit 5002 OPTION 2 for CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership (QCF) (5C1) with 30 credits AMLC instructors Units 5001, 5006, 5012, 5013 OPTION 3 All instructors Dual Award: combination of 2 qualifications (Option 1 + appropriate Option 2) Table 1: No additional work solutions: accredited qualifications Acquire these Qualifications. You have the option to register for Option 1 alone, the appropriate Option 2 alone, or a combination of Option 1 with the appropriate Option 2. Instructions are given on the registration form. No additional work is required by you, so Standard Learning Credits are ineligible. Proof of successful completion of your JMLC training, provided by ACS administration, makes you eligible for this qualification. Complete the registration form, located on: www.managers.org.uk/mod (see registration below), indicating your choice. Allow 6 weeks for receipt of certification. External Assignment Option: Option to increase the qualification. The CMI has agreed with your training authority to offer you the opportunity to capitalise on your learning by completing an assignment and submitting it to the CMI for external assessment. JMLC Instructors additional work: Increase the size of the CMI Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management (QCF) by one unit (4008 – Managing equality & diversity) to 26 QCF credits. You must complete an externally assessed assignment to achieve this qualification. This may make Standard Learning Credits eligible. OPTION 4 for JMLC Instructors CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management Coaching and Mentoring (QCF) (5C2) with 24 credits (units as above) CMI Level 3 Certificate in First Line management (3C1) with 26 QCF credits (units above plus unit 4008) Unit 4008 – ‘Managing equality and diversity’. This unit is about promoting equality and valuing the diversity of individuals’ and teams. It fosters understanding about how teams and individuals interact and encourages good practice. The completion pack provides the assignment and instructions about how to get support. IMLC Instructors additional work: Increase the size of the CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership (QCF) by adding one unit (5022 –Organisational Corporate Social Responsibility). You must complete an externally assessed assignment to achieve this qualification. This may make Standard Learning Credits eligible OPTION 5 for IMLC instructors CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management Coaching and Mentoring (QCF) (5C2) with 24 credits (units as above) CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership (QCF) (5C1) with 14 credits (units as above plus unit 5022) AMLC Instructors additional work: Increase the level 5 certificate by adding one unit (5022 – Organisational corporate social responsibility). You must complete an externally assessed assignment to achieve this qualification. This may make Standard Learning Credits eligible OPTION 6 for AMLC instructors CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management Coaching and Mentoring (QCF) (5C2) with 24 credits (units as above) CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership (QCF) (5C1) with 37 credits (units as above plus unit 5022) Unit 5022 – ‘Organisational corporate social responsibility’. This unit is about understanding organisational strategy for corporate social responsibility, developing an implementation plan, delivering the plan and evaluating and reporting impact on performance. The completion pack provides the assignment and instructions about how to get support. Acquire Enhanced Qualifications. You have the option to register for the appropriate enhanced dual qualification option; instructions are given on the registration form. Because you are submitting work for assessment by CMI Standard Learning Credits may be eligible. Proof of successful completion of your Induction training, provided by ACS administration, makes you eligible for this qualification. Complete the registration form, located on: www.managers.org.uk/mod (see below), indicating your choice. Allow a minimum of 9 weeks from submission of your assignment before receipt of certification. You have an 18-month window of opportunity, from date of course completion, to register for these qualifications. Register using the registration form on the CMI web, which you can download and either fax or post to the CMI (details on the form). Visit the web www.managers.org.uk/mod and click on CMI qualifications. Then scroll down to, and click on, Royal Air Force. Scroll down the table to the ACSIC row and click on Download factsheet and Download registration form . Please complete the registration form in conjunction with this factsheet. Don’t forget to provide the remittance; costs are shown on the registration form. Acquiring the Completion Pack. You will need username and password to download the Completion Pack, provided with complementary studying membership as part of the registration procedure. Once registered, you can re-enter the web site and click on Download completion pack. This will prompt you for your username and password, which will then open for you to download. You have 9-months to complete the assignment; please contact CMI (see below) if you are experiencing problems meeting this deadline. If no work is submitted, CMI will default certification to the appropriate ‘no additional work’ dual option shown in Table 1 above. CMI will not refund the difference in registration fee. Allow a minimum of 9 weeks from submission of your assignment, assuming a pass, for receipt of certification. Continuing Professional Development (CPD). These qualifications can be built upon to add further units and so present excellent opportunity for Continuing Professional Development. As they are registered on the national Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) they are readily recognised by civilian organisations.
