DRAMA 189 – Project in Production: Taught Fall 2007 This course is a supervised project for a specific department production. The student was the hair & makeup designer for two productions during the semester – The Polish Joke and La Celestina. DRAMA 190 – Supervised Independent Study: Taught Fall 2007 This course is a supervised independent project for a specific costume construction assignment for a department production. The student built an entire costume from the designer’s rendering for a character in the play La Celestina. This course explores the nature of drama, its types, techniques, and conventions. For analysis purposes, particular attention is given to historical context and cultural boundaries. This course focuses on the literary aspects of drama, such as plot, character, and theme rather than production elements. THTR 110 – Introduction to Theatre: Taught Fall 2002 This course, which serves as a basic introduction to theatre, is required of all majors. The fullness and variety of the art of theatre is explored through theories, practices, dramatic structure, acting, directing, design, practical stagecraft and some theatre history. Focus is placed on stage production as it changed and developed over a twenty-five hundred year period. THTR 211 – Theatre History I: Taught Fall 2002 Required of all majors, this course is a chronological study of western theatre from ancient Greek drama to seventeenth-century British drama. An emphasis is placed on the social, cultural, and theatrical contexts in which each playwright lived and wrote. Students develop an understanding of theatre as an art shaped through the centuries by cultural dialectics of acceptance and rejection, artistic vision, and political power. THTR 212 – Theatre History II: Taught Spring 2003 This course, which is a continuation of Theatre History I, is required of all majors. A chronological study of western theatre from seventeenth-century French and Spanish, through Restoration and eighteenth-century British drama, up to nineteenth-century German, Scandinavian, and Russian drama. Through a selection of plays from representative playwrights, a greater understanding of the social, cultural and theatrical contexts in which each playwright lived and wrote will be achieved. THTR 370 – Special Topics: Costume Construction: Taught Spring 2002 A special topic in technical theatre, this course introduces students to both beginning and intermediate skills, crafts, materials, techniques, and tools basic to the execution of costume production.
