The following information and renewal confirmations will help you and your school’s team to remain focused on SW-PBS implementation in your school and district. This packet contains all information needed for schools with Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 Teams. As you know, SW-PBS is a process of school and district-wide implementation of a data-based decision making system for creating and maintaining safe and effective learning environments. SWPBS is based on Multi-tiered Systems of Support research-based strategies. These strategies increase the likelihood of appropriate behavior and decrease the likelihood of inappropriate through implementing, teaching, and consistently using the SW-PBS process. Implementation of SW-PBS is a multi-year commitment to the practices, principles, and guidelines of SW-PBS for creating and maintaining safe and effective learning environments through prevention and intervention. Annually, your school and SW-PBS teams should revisit commitments made when first initiating SW-PBS to ensure fidelity to and continued success with implementation. Who Needs to Be Involved…. Commitment and support begins at the district level and district leaders need to be informed, updated, and dedicated to the implementation of SW-PBS. Building administrators are expected to be actively involved in implementation and a majority of school staff needs to support implementation of SW-PBS. The SW-PBS team, Tier 2 team, and Tier 3 team need to be actively meeting, planning, and reviewing data to guide the implementation process for your school. What’s Next…. The materials contained in this packet are used by you and your regional consultant to prepare your school for reconfirmation of your commitment and continued training, implementation, and support. In recognition of the time, effort, and motivation required to effect positive systems change. Yes Items to Review, Complete and Up-date 1. A school improvement plan (CSIP) exists that includes school-wide discipline (i.e., behavior, school safety, school climate) as one of the top school goals. 2. A Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS) Team is formed with broad representation, and roles assigned to members (building administrator, general and special education teachers, grade level representation, etc.). 3. Principal(s) who is responsible for making discipline decisions is an active participant on SW-PBS Team and agrees to attend all days of School-wide Training. 4. Principal re-commits to School-wide PBS and is aware that SW-PBS is a multi-year process that may require ongoing training and/or revisions of school’s SW-PBS Plan. 5. SW-PBS Team commits to meet at least once a month during to analyze and problemsolve school-wide data. 6. At least 80% of your faculty, staff, and administration remain interested in implementing School-wide PBS. 7. School has allocated funds or secured funding from their district to support school-wide initiatives. 8. If applicable, an individual at the district level is identified as the lead district contact or SW-PBS District Coordinator and a District-level team includes SW-PBS responsibilities. 9. SW-PBS internal coaches (1 to 2 for each building team) are identified and receive additional training and actively participate in the school-wide initiatives. 10. Continuing to operate a student information system that can be used to determine information on discipline office referrals by problem behavior, by location, by student, by time of day, by function, and the number of referrals per day/month 6.
