Response to Intervention (RTI) Summary:
Johnny began the Response to Intervention process for reading on September 4th, 2009 with the
Tier I intervention consisting of small group focus on high frequency words four times per week
in the classroom for 15 minutes per day. At the beginning of Tier I, Johnny was assessed and was
determined to be reading at an F & P Level E. Johnny’s F & P expected reading level would be
Level I. Progress monitoring was completed every two weeks during Tier I. At the end of Tier I,
on October 16th, assessment was completed and indicated that Johnny was reading at Level F.
While Johnny had made some progress during Tier I, it was determined that he should move
onto Tier II.
Tier II consisted of Leveled Literacy Intervention for 30 minutes per day, five days per week
with the interventionist. Johnny participated in LLI for ten weeks with progress assessed every
two weeks. Assessment at the end of Tier II indicated that Johnny had progressed from Level F
at the beginning of Tier II to Level G. Based upon Johnny’s progress, it was determined that he
continued to read below the expected level (Level I), thus he was moved onto tier III.
Johnny began Tier III on January 25th, 2010. Tier III consisted of participation in My Reading
Coach outside of the classroom with the interventionist for 45 minutes per day, 5 days per week.
Progress was monitored every two weeks with Tier III continuing for ten weeks. Assessment at
the end of Tier III indicated that Johnny had not increased his reading level during Tier III. He
