UoN to collaborate with Diatomaceous Earth Processing Company (From right) Prof. Kironchi, Prof. Gachene, Prof. Maingi and Prof. Gachuiri during the meeting held between UoN and ADIL The University of Nairobi has initiated talks with the African Diatomite Industries Ltd (ADIL) on possible collaboration through research on the beneficial use of Diatomaceous Earth. The University of Nairobi team led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Production and Extension) Prof. Lucy W. Irungu met with a team from the ADIL which was led by the General Manager Mr. Philip Chesang. Prof. Kironchi, Prof. Gachene, Prof. Gachuiri and Prof Maingi, all from the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS) also formed part of the University of Nairobi team. Through research the two teams established, it is possible to find valuable use of Diatomaceous earth in addressing gastrointestinal parasite load in ruminants; increasing butter fat content in milk in Dairy animals; improving phenotypic characteristics of many domesticated animals among others.
