Course Objective
To equip students with the abilities to understand high-intermediate written English and
low-intermediate to intermediate spoken English
Teaching Methods
Lecturing, role-playing, in-class reading, listening to audio tapes, watching video tapes, and
discussing
Assessment Allocation
Quizzes 30%, Mid-term 30%, Final 30%, Teacher’s Evaluation 10%

Listening: Interactions I1: Listening/Speaking, 4th edition, by Judith Tanka, and Lida R.

Course Schedule
Meet 3 hours a week, with 2 hours devoted to reading and one hour to listening
Reading: 12 chapters for the whole semester; approximately one chapter will be covered in 1
and 1/2 weeks
Listening: the last half of the book--6 chapters--is to be used for this semester; approximately
