Arriva Arriva are introducing a new range of travel tickets for students in Post 16 education. Flexible payment options including day, weekly, termly or annual ticket price options Facility to travel any time of the day during the Academic Year – this includes half term breaks as well as Christmas & Easter Holidays . The travel passes will offer students travel within a particular zone or between zones. There are a number of zones and each zone will represent a particular geographical area There are 8 zones: 1. Berwick 2. Alnwick 3. Amble 4. Ashington 5. Morpeth 6. Blyth Valley 7. Hexham 8. Tyne & Wear (Add-On Zone) The costs will range from £430 a year for a one zone pass; £530 a year for a two zone pass and £660 for a three zones or more pass, which will cover all of Northumberland, Newcastle and North Tyneside. For most, but not all, Post 16 students the purchase of a one zone pass will be sufficient to enable them to travel to and from their local high school. The purchase of two or three zone tickets will be required if longer distance travel is required. Arriva will soon be able to offer direct debit facilities for annual ticket purchases which will enable families to buy these zonal tickets at the prices quoted here without the need to make one big payment. The key smartcard is safe and secure. Your travel is loaded onto a smartcard, when you board the bus you are required to hold your smartcard over the reader and wait for the light to go green. If you lose your key smartcard, Go North East can replace it with all the valid tickets you had on your original card (there is a £5 replacement fee). Stagecoach The key change, since 2013, is that Stagecoach will no longer ask that the young person is in education, they just need to be under 19 i.e. 5 to 18 years old. The prices of the actual VIP tickets, to buy with the VIP ID card, will remain valid for 2014 but are subject to review in Jan 2015. You can buy annual and term tickets throughout the academic year, there’s also a summer holiday version. From 81p* a day you’ll be able to use your Unirider ticket on any Stagecoach North East bus. Unirider is available to full time students aged over 16, who hold a valid student ID card. *Daily price based on an annual ticket bought online @ £245 over 303 days. Where can I use it? Unirider is valid on all Stagecoach North East buses throughout Tyne & Wear and Tees Valley including into Northumberland, Hartlepool, Teesside, Sunderland, Newcastle and South Shields.
